PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
POP EVIL – “Be Legendary”
Pop Evil is a band that is continuously experimenting with their sound, never falling into the trap of taking a formulaic approach to get radio airplay. To their credit, they continue to be an Active Rock staple regardless of the direction that their sound takes. “Be Legendary” is an uplifting song that makes you want to be your best self. It’s not quite motivational speaking, but it is the rock and roll equivalent of it. In today’s times, being legendary for any band is a monolithic challenge. At the very least, Pop Evil is always interesting and willing to take chances that others shy away from.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
As predicted, Godsmack ends 2018 on top of the charts. Given the slowdown during the holidays, it’s hard to predict what the trend will be going into the new year, but it looks like Godsmack will start the year in the #1 slot. They cushioned their lead over The Glorious Sons this week, giving them a virtual lock on the top spot next week (even if they begin to drop). It still looks like The Glorious Sons are positioned to be the first new #1 in 2019, but if they stall at #2, Godsmack should have an extended run at #1. There are no other real threats anywhere close at the moment.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN (by Jon Loveless)
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
The Top 10 songs are the same for a third straight week, only a single change in the tier for the past month…
Atreyu climbs three spots to crack into the Top 20…
The composition of the Top 30 songs are unchanged this week…
The decline of a song above them gives Twenty One Pilots a Top 40 song despite essentially flat airplay…
The only new entry in the Top 50 this week isn’t really “new.” Sunflower Dead returns to the published chart thanks to a more than 20% increase in spins.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Godsmack – “When Legends Rise”
Greta Van Fleet – “You’re The One”
Nothing More – “Let ‘Em Burn”
FALLING
Avenged Sevenfold – “Mad Hatter”
Bad Wolves – “Hear Me Now”
Shinedown – “Get Up”
TRENDS & OBSERVATIONS
It was a slow week at rock radio (even for the holidays). If we’re being honest about it, the past month has been slow. Hopefully, after such a prolonged hibernation, there will be enough stations that actually want to shake things up to generate some movement next week. Although, with the way the holidays fell on the calendar, it may be another week before we see real change.
