PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
MESSAGE FROM SYLVIA – “Right Here And Now”
Message From Sylvia is one of the more exciting bands to grace the Active Rock airwaves in recent times. The band’s first single – “Heart Of War” – cracked the top 30 last year. There’s no reason to believe that the follow-up single – “Right Here And Now” won’t enjoy similar (or even greater) success. The combination of the three Lopez-Smith brothers (formerly of First Decree) and vocalist Matthew Nevitt (ex-DoryDrive) makes for an ideal chemistry. On “Right Here And Now,” the band showcases an impressive ability to blend the light with the dark, similar to the way that Alter Bridge transitions between soaring vocals, anguished guitars and thunderous rhythms. At times in the song, MFS captures the melodic sensibilities of Foo Fighters. To be able to inspire comparisons to some of the biggest names in the genre at this early stage of their journey speaks volumes about the potential of these up-and-comers. Based on the music so far, you have to think that this is a band with staying power. Hopefully they will get the attention that they deserve in a crowded field.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (by Adam Waldman)
As predicted last week, Green Day’s “Still Breathing” takes over the #1 position from Ghost, and Metallica’s “Atlas, Rise!” moves up to #2. Based on current trends and spin totals for each of these songs, they’re probably both no more than a few weeks away from hitting a plateau (if not a reversal). Shinedown’s “How Did You Love” is poised to move into the top 3 next week. Unless something unexpected happens, these three will jockey for position at the top for at least the next month. It looked as though The Pretty Reckless was on track to jump up to the top 3 for a reunion of dominance that took place with Green Day and Metallica during 2016, but their latest single (“Oh My God”) seems to have lost some steam for the moment.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
As expected, the new week sees Green Day take over the #1 spot on the latest Mediabase Active Rock Airplay chart. Also up two spots this week is the new #2 song from Metallica, trailed by former #1s from Ghost and Highly Suspect.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
No new songs in the Top 10 this week (only the order has changed)…
Only one new arrival in the Top 20 – the latest from Sick Puppies. Red Hot Chili Peppers “climb” back in as well (despite losing spins over the previous week)…
K-Flay is the only new entry in the Top 30…
New entries in the Top 40 come from format powerhouses Halestorm and Skillet…
The only debut in the Top 50 this week comes from As Lions, the London-based band fronted by Austin Dickinson (son of Iron Maiden’s legendary vocalist Bruce Dickinson).
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Green Day – “Still Breathing”
Metallica – “Atlas, Rise!”
Starset – “Monster”
FALLING
Volbeat – “Seal The Deal”
Avenged Sevenfold – “The Stage”
A Day To Remember – “Naivety”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
With five of the top eight songs suffering declining airplay, it appears that attrition may shake the top of the chart up over the next couple of weeks. That could be good news for mainstays in the format such as Breaking Benjamin and Korn, both of whom have been stuck in the 10-15 range of the chart for almost two months.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/
