Feel Good Friday is an ongoing feature on Hard Rock Daddy. Each Friday, we will be adding new songs to the “FEEL GOOD ROCK SONGS” playlist (see YouTube link below). You can go directly to the YouTube video for each song by clicking on link before the write-up.
SURVIVOR – “Eye Of The Tiger” (1982)
If ever there was a feel good song that gets you pumped every time that you hear it, Survivor’s smash hit “Eye Of The Tiger” is it. Though the song was written at the request (and direction) of Sylvester Stallone, it has transcended the Rocky III soundtrack to become one of the greatest rock anthems of all-time. (Click here to read the fascinating story about the origin of the song).
On their own, the Rocky movies leave you pumped with adrenaline and thinking that you can take on the world. When you add “Eye Of The Tiger” to the mix, the feeling is magnified tenfold. It is one of the ultimate feel good songs, but more than that, it is also one of the most motivational songs that has the power to help push you through any challenge.
ROBERT TEPPER – “No Easy Way Out” (1986)
In 1985, Robert Tepper signed with Scotti Brothers Records, and recorded “No Easy Way Out.” This is the same label that connected Sylvester Stallone with Survivor to create “Eye Of The Tiger” for Rocky III. The follow-up movie (Rocky IV), which featured a classic battle between Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago, also included a Survivor song (“Burning Heart”), but it is Tepper’s biggest hit that really sets the tone of the movie.
Although not to the same degree as “Eye Of The Tiger,” “No Easy Way Out” has that same ‘80s feel good vibe, and a driving rhythm that gets your blood pumping and adrenaline spiking. Though the popularity of this song pales by comparison to Survivor’s megahit, its impact on one of the most memorable movies of the ‘80s is just as great. While Survivor had other hits, this is the only song that most people know by Tepper. (Click here to read about how this song came to be another classic in the Rocky series).
