PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
THREE DAYS GRACE – “The Mountain”
Not surprisingly, the return of Three Days Grace with new material resulted in instant traction at Active Rock radio. They are among a handful of bands that gets automatic airplay regardless of the song. That is not to say that the band doesn’t deserve the airplay. They absolutely do. “The Mountain” is a nice return for these Active Rock darlings. It’s aggressive, powerful and highly energetic…the type of song that is ideal for working out and pushing past the pain. Lyrically, the song also provides a healthy does of motivation and inspiration. Although you can’t tell when you hear it on the radio, the video for the song takes the workout theme a step further. It was filmed in a UFC octagon, and features a cameo appearance by UFC fighter, Misha Circunov. Songs this heavy are often times accompanied by angry growls, but Three Days Grace sticks to their formula of delivering melodic, catchy vocals. As the old saying goes…“if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” It’s safe to say that this will not be the only single that charts during the course of the year. The band’s latest album, Outsider, drops on March 9th.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
Seether’s decline last week signaled the possibility of an extended run for current leaders, Royal Blood. Usually when a song starts to decline it doesn’t reverse course. Seether broke the trend this week, gaining a modest amount of spins, putting them back in contention to reach the top of the chart. At the same time, Royal Blood started to decline. Even if Seether plateaus, they could end up with a #1 after all if Royal Blood drops significantly next week. Otherwise, it’s likely that Papa Roach will be the next #1 as “Born For Greatness” picked up a head of steam this week. So to did Greta Van Fleet’s “Safari Song,” but it trails Papa Roach by 250 spins. Keep an eye on both of these to battle for the top in the coming weeks.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
And you get a cover song, and you get a cover song, and you get a… well, you get the idea. Individually, there’s nothing expressly “wrong” with a band doing a cover, or even occasionally choosing one as a single. But over the past few months, the flurry of them has a lot of (supposedly) active rock stations sounding like they’ve flipped to classic rock formats. Surely, at some point, programmers will realize that it’s gotten out of hand … right?
