PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
WITHIN REASON – “Invictus”
As I listened to “Invictus,” the latest single from Within Reason, a number of modern artists came to mind (all of them among my favorites). You can hear the southern flavor of Black Stone Cherry and Shaman’s Harvest mixed with the radio-friendly melodies and hooks of bands like Shinedown, Pop Evil, and Hinder. And, if you’re old enough to remember the classic AOR days of Styx, Journey, and Kansas, you may even get a bit nostalgic listening to riffs that are tailor-made for arenas. Reading the band’s bio, you get the feeling that radio play (while beneficial) is not what defines the band. Their music has been featured in film, video games, and TV commercials. “Invictus” may have some familiar attributes, but it doesn’t sound like a clone of any artist in particular. This is the type of song that makes you stand up and take notice when you hear mixed in with a typical Active Rock playlist. If you ask me, radio needs more artists like Within Reason to freshen up playlists that tend to become stale with so many similar sounding artists.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
As mentioned last week, “it’s not uncommon for an older song to hit #1 and then start dropping the next week.” Although Highly Suspect’s “Little One” is still on top by a handful of spins, they already started their decline after hitting #1 last week. It’s going to be a short stay at the top. The only mystery left is waiting to see if Theory Of A Deadman’s “Rx” or Nothing More’s “Go To War” is #1 next week. Both had the exact same number of spins this week, however, TOAD gained more spins, so they get the slight edge heading into next week, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Nothing More is the new #1 next week.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN (by Jon Loveless)
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
No changes in the composition of the Top 15 songs this week, but some movement in the next few spots where 10 Years and Marilyn Manson both crack the Top 20…
Quick gains for Asking Alexandria’s new single lands it in the Top 30 in just its’ second week on the published chart…
Another quick riser is the latest from Royal Blood, which breaks into the Top 40…
Red leads three new songs into the Top 50 this week, joined by new Black Label Society and Stone Horses (a side project involving members of Charm City Devils).
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Theory Of A Deadman – “Rx”
Thirty Seconds To Mars – “Walk On Water”
Stone Sour – “Rose Red Violent Blue”
FALLING
Greta Van Fleet – “Highway Tune”
Royal Republic – “Baby”
Righteous Vendetta – “Weight Of The World”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
Well there’s something you don’t see every day: a tie for position at the top of the chart. But that’s the statistical oddity that happened with Theory of A Deadman and Nothing More this week. Much easier to end up with identical spin counts in the lower reaches of the chart, but unusualwhen there’s over 1,700 spins each. The momentum, however, resides with TOAD, at least going into the new week.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/
