PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)

TRIVIUM – “The Heart From Your Hate”

While many active rock bands these days find their sound and stay within a pretty narrow pocket, Trivium continues to remain relevant in the format while evolving with each record.  Some fans may find the evolution a bit dizzying, but to me, the band is just keeping things interesting.  The one constant is the quality of the songs and the meaningful lyrics, regardless of the musical direction.  “The Heart From Your Hate” is likely to have a feeling of familiarity to active rock fans, but not necessarily because they of previous releases from Trivium.  The opening guitar riff, which carries throughout the song, is reminiscent of Avenged Sevenfold’s “Hail To The King,” while the song structure and vocal style (particularly in the chorus) conjures up thoughts of Gemini Syndrome’s “Remember We Die.”  Both of the aforementioned songs happen to be personal favorites, so there are no complaints here.  Hopefully, Trivium’s latest single will receive enough traction to battle for the top spot in the near future.  The song is that good.
 

 

 

PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)

The only sure prediction in recent times is unpredictability.  It looked like Rise Against was going to peak at #2 as momentum stalled.  The next threat to Royal Blood seemed to be Greta Van Fleet, who still had enough ground to make up to ensure at least a few more weeks at the top for Royal Blood.  After a week of significant spin decline for the former #1, they were dethroned by Rise Against who had enough of an increase to surpass Royal Blood by a mere three spins.  That’s the closest margin that has occurred in recent memory.  With Greta Van Fleet now trailing by only 125 spins or so, there’s a chance that they reach the top as soon as next week.  Of course, there’s a chance that they start to drop next week.  Time will tell.  One thing that seems likely is a continued rise towards the top for Nothing More’s latest single, “Go To War.”

NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT

While the margin at the top was razor thin, the gap between the Top 10 and the rest of the chart is sizable (around 20% difference in spins between 10 and 11), doing much to explain why this week’s Top 10 has the same songs as last week’s…

Kid Rock backs into the Top 20, gaining a chart position despite losing a minor amount of spins from last week…

Seether and Ded arrive in the Top 30 with their latest singles…

Through Fire leads three songs into the Top 40, including the week’s highest debuting track from Foo Fighters…

10 Years has the only other true debut of the week, cracking the Top 50 in advance of their official going-for-adds date.

 TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS

Maybe the third time is the charm.   At least Los-Angeles band Vyces has to hope so.   Their re-entry at #49 this week marks the third appearance on the chart for “Nocturnal.”  The song previously debuted at #49 back in late July, then fell off of the published chart for two weeks, returned at #50 two weeks ago, fell off the Top 50 again, and now makes another return.   Hopefully (for their sake) a solid gain in spins indicates enough momentum for the song to stick around longer this time.
