PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK by Adam Waldman
SEVENDUST – “Thank You”
Sevendust is undoubtedly in the upper echelon of artists that get played on Active Rock radio, so it is somewhat surprising that “Thank You” looks to be making a slow climb, rather than rocketing up the charts alongside some the other recent heavy hitters like Shinedown, Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin and the like. Ironically, the methodical climb may actually be a blessing in disguise, as the first single off of Sevendust’s upcoming album, Kill The Flaw (October 2015), will likely not have to engage in the type of “Battle Royale” that is currently going on at the top of the chart. This is assuming that “Thank You” eventually starts to gain the spins that it deserves. The song – which features the perfect blend of heavy and emotive (both signature Sevendust qualities) – stands out on Active Rock radio because of Lajon Witherspoon’s distinct vocals and the overall intensity of the band. As expected, SiriusXM’s Octane has jumped on the song early; it has already made it onto the Big ‘Uns Countdown.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
Shinedown remains atop the Mediabase Active Rock airplay chart this week with a solid increase in spins for “Cut The Cord.” They did not, however, increase their lead over Disturbed, who inched incrementally closer from their #2 position with “The Vengeful One.” Pop Evil holds onto the #3 spot, but can now hear “Footsteps” (pun intended) approaching from Five Finger Death Punch who rose sharply to claim the 4th position on the chart with “Jekyll & Hyde.”
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Breaking Benjamin has another Top 10 single thanks to a three-position climb fueled by a nearly 20% increase in airplay…
P.O.D. reaches the Top 20 this week (the only artist to crack that tier)…
Foo Fighters’ latest single has a splashy debut to lead three new arrivals into the Top 30…
Sevendust will being saying “Thank You” a lot this week after a big jump pushes them into the Top 40…
The latest singles from Muse and Zac Brown Band also make their debut in the Top 50.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
MOVING UP
Disturbed – “The Vengeful One”
Five Finger Death Punch – “Jekyll & Hyde”
Foo Fighters – “Outside”
DROPPING DOWN
Halestorm – “Amen”
Seether – “Nobody Praying For Me”
Mumford & Sons – “The Wolf”
FUTURES REPORT
The length of stay at the top for Shinedown may have become at least a little more debatable after a strong showing by Disturbed last week, but a solid weekend kept their advantage nearly the same after the margin narrowed steadily for most of the week. That makes predictions harder than expected, but it’s still likely to remain a two-horse race for at least another couple of weeks, barring some unforeseen abrupt drop in support for either of the frontrunners.
