PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK by Adam Waldman
ADELITA’S WAY – “I Get Around”
There used to be a time when a rock band felt like they had arrived upon the signing of a major label record deal. Those days are gone, and unless there is a drastic paradigm shift, they most likely will be forever. Like last week’s featured artist, Seasons After, Adelita’s Way has a renewed sense of freedom and purpose now that they are putting their music out on their own with a team that they put together. Ahead of their SnoCore tour – filled with bands that “have a chip on their shoulder” according to frontman, Rick DeJesus – Adelita’s Way has released “I Get Around” from their upcoming Deserve This EP (which will be released on 3/17). The song made a huge jump from #73 last week into the Top 50 this week. In a changing industry (particularly when it comes to rock), it cannot be overstated how important it is for bands like Adelita’s Way to get the radio exposure that they deserve. While causal fans may think that radio airplay equals money for the band, the reality is that most of their money is made by relentlessly touring and selling merchandise. However, radio exposure is important to help generate interest in the band. Check out “I Get Around” below, and the numerous cool items that are available on the band’s Pledge Music campaign.
THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
Three Days Grace makes it to six weeks in a row at the top of the Mediabase Active Rock Airplay chart with “I Am Machine,” but by an exceptionally small margin, just 40 spins (or about two percent more airplay) than Papa Roach’s #2 song “Face Everything And Rise” who saw their growth plateau last week. The latest singles from Halestorm, Foo Fighters and a suddenly resurgent track from Pretty Reckless all appear to have legitimate chance at a number one song in the immediate future.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
The Offspring and AC/DC both arrive in the Top10 as several high performing songs fell back or even off of the chart entirely this week…
Motionless In White finally cracks the Top 20, a remarkable 26 weeks after they first broke into the Top 50. Since “Reincarnate” debuted on the chart, six different songs have reached the number one spot …
Four songs arrive in the Top 50 this week, the highest being from Apocalyptica with “Cold Blood,” the debut single from the band’s first album featuring a single lead vocalist instead of multiple guest vocalists.
