Poison broke onto the hard rock music scene in 1986 with their hit song “Talk Dirty To Me.” Shortly thereafter, with their infectious brand of glam metal and their over-the-top makeup and wardrobe, they became the poster boys for hair bands everywhere. Many of the bands that were inspired by Poison have come and gone, and remain nothing more than a footnote in the annals of hard rock music history. Back in 1986, no one could have ever predicted that Poison, more specifically Bret Michaels, would still be a force to be reckoned with nearly 30 years later.
Musically, Michaels survived the Nirvana-led grunge movement which served as the death knell of hair metal. Physically, he has battled through diseases and ailments that would have brought most people to their knees. However, not only has Michaels refused to be stopped in his tracks by various health setbacks, he has actually thrived in the face of them to become a modern-day renaissance man (music, television, entrepreneurial ventures, philanthropy, diabetes advocate and father).
The erstwhile face of glam metal has evolved into a soulful, passionate singer-songwriter. Despite health issues, Michaels (age 51), continues to keep his nose to the grindstone with all of his ventures while touring regularly to support the music that he now releases independently. A recent health scare (full story) forced Michaels to leave the stage in the middle of a concert, and if not for warnings from doctors and those close to him, he would have risked his health further to avoid disappointing any of his fans by continuing to perform.
With all that Michaels has done to help others, it wouldn’t be surprising if someone had written his latest single – “A Beautiful Soul” – about him as a thank you for his efforts. However, in this love song, Michaels admits his flaws and showcases the humility that makes him so likeable to legions of admirers around the world. Fans of songs like “Something To Believe In,” “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” and “I Won’t Forget You” will be instantly drawn to his latest heartfelt, mid-tempo, piano ballad featuring the signature grooves of Michaels’ solo releases.
It may sound a bit hyperbolic to call “A Beautiful Soul” an instant classic, but with 3.5 million views of the YouTube video in two months, it seems fair to label it as such.

“A Beautiful Soul” Lyrics
Woke up this morning had these thoughts run through my head
Words I wished I told you things I wish I’d said, now
I hope it’s not too late and if that door should close
I need you to know…
I’ll miss your beautiful soul
It’s the way you look, it’s the way you breathe
It’s the sexy things you whisper in my ear
When you lay your body down on me
I love your eyes and I love your face
You love me on my best days, forgave my worst mistakes
This could all be over in the blink of an eye
So now I’m asking you to give us one more try
To give us one more try, yeah
Shine on fallen angel
Shine on me
And find your way home
Find your way home
Shine on fallen angel
Shine on me
You’ll always be my beautiful soul
So let’s get down to the heart of the matter
Yeah We may be cracked but we ain’t shattered
We are fixable, so don’t let go
You see I could have said this and I should have said that
But the way I feel as a matter of fact, you’re incredible
I was such a fool
If this is really over
Before it’s said and done
I need you to know
You will always be the one
Always, always
Shine on fallen angel
Shine on me
And find your way home
Come find your way home
Shine on fallen angel
Shine on me
You’ll always be my beautiful soul
It’s so simple girl, why can’t we see
I want you and you want me
Want me, want me too
Standing there in a crowded room
Our eyes speak but our lips don’t move
You’re looking at me, just looking at you
We walked outside in the pouring rain
Soaking wet, I still feel the same
You’re beautiful and everything you do, (yeah)
Shine on fallen angel
Shine on me
And find your way home
Come find your way home
Shine on fallen angel
Shine on me
You’ll always be my beautiful soul
Shine on fallen angel
Shine on me
And find your way home (oh yeah yeah)
Shine on fallen angel
Shine on me
You’ll always be my beautiful soul
Woke up this morning had these thoughts run through my head
Words I wished I’d told you, things I wished I’d said
