At first blush, it may seem a bit ironic that a band named Another Lost Year makes their debut onto the hard rock music scene with an album called Better Days (released October 2012). However, as you listen to the lyrics of the songs, you realize that Better Days are the ones that follow days of pain, internal struggle, frustration, disappointment and the sadness that often accompanies the harsh realities of life. This collection of eleven songs captures a moment in time for Another Lost Year, particularly frontman and lyricist, Clinton Cunanan, whose powerful, emotional delivery brings the songs to life.
The first single off of Better Days – entitled “War on the Inside” – was an instant hit and fan favorite that spent several well-deserved weeks on the SiriusXM Octane Big ‘Uns Countdown. Cunanan delivers the vocals with such raw emotion that listeners can’t help but feel his anguish as he wails…“all these voices calling my name…keep reminding me of all of this pain…cause I am stuck here out on this ledge…can you save me tonight…from the war on the inside?” The song was also included on the Top 12 Hard Rock Songs of 2012.
While “War on the Inside” is a great song, it is not the only reason for hard rock music fans to check out Better Days. The second single entitled “Writing on the Wall” was recently released, and it is already starting to garner attention for these rockers from Charlotte, NC. It is currently the #1 song on iHeartRadio’s rock charts, following in the footsteps of “War on the Inside” which spent 256 days in the #1 position.
Better Days is filled with quality hard rock songs with meaningful lyrics. The crunching guitar riffs, melodic hooks and driving rhythm section set the stage for Cunanan to work his vocal magic with a mixture of emotional power, haunting nuance and the occasional well-placed guttural growl. Lead guitarist, Adam Hall, tastefully puts his stamp on the album with solos that complement the overall sound of the band.
Like most hard rock bands today, Another Lost Year is constantly on the road, touring with many of today’s top acts in the genre. If Better Days is any indication, the live show is something that should not be missed when the band comes to town.
