On March 11, 2013, Volbeat debuted the video for “Cape Of Our Hero” – the first single off of their eagerly anticipated album Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, which streets on April 9, 2013. The official video can be found on the band’s website (click here to watch the video). If the rest of the album is anything like “Cape Of Our Hero,” this album is going to be another tremendous hit for these Danish rockers, now featuring Rob Caggiano (formerly of Anthrax) on lead guitar.
Volbeat is one of today’s most unique hard rock bands, largely due to frontman Michael Poulsen’s instantly recognizable signature sound. His dynamic vocals blend perfectly with the infectious melodies that we’ve come to expect from Volbeat. Poulsen shines once again on “Cape Of Our Hero,” but the song also features outstanding musicianship.
The guitar harmonies – reminiscent of Judas Priest’s “The Hellion” – add an incredible layer to Poulsen’s vocals, as do the pulsating drum beats, which at times, have a similar feel to Queensryche’s “Speak” off of Operation Mindcrime.
Volbeat is one of the few bands that can create feel-good songs out of life’s moments of sadness, loss and regret. The magic that they created on Beyond Hell/Above Heaven with “Fallen” has been re-created with “Cape Of Our Hero” – a song destined to dominate the Octane Big ‘Uns Countdown in the very near future.
As you watch the “Cape Of Our Hero” video, you can help but feel the bittersweet nostalgia of the story. If you grew up in the 80’s, you will probably also fondly reminisce about the classic television show – Greatest American Hero. After watching the video, Volbeat fans will be counting down the days until the April 9th release of Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies.
