PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
THE WILD! – “Playing With Fire”
Anyone who doubts that there is a classic rock revival taking place need look no further than the success of bands like Dirty Honey, Rival Sons, and the like. The Wild! is an under-the-radar band that absolutely belongs in the same conversation as the aforementioned bands. This Canadian quartet has a fresh sound with a timeless quality that is rooted in the blues rock of yesteryear. True to their moniker, this is a band that makes you nostalgic for the days when rock and roll was one big party.
Unlike some bands that get locked into a particular classic rock sound, The Wild! is anything but predictable (although their ability to deliver inspired songs is now expected). “Playing With Fire” is the next step in the evolution of one of the best new artists in rock today. It’s simultaneously energetically fun and soulful thanks to Dylan Villain’s vocals. With the boot stomping swagger of classic Aerosmith, the full throttle energy of Rainbow’s “Death Alley Driver,” the party vibe of Krokus’ cover of “Ballroom Blitz,” and the haunting spirit of Bon Scott, “Playing With Fire” feels like an homage to the legends that blazed the trail for The Wild!
Whether this song gets the attention at radio that it deserves remains to be seen. Either way, this is a band that should absolutely be on your radar.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
It’s highly likely that The Glorious Sons take over the #1 spot next week from Dirty Honey. The current chart-topper had a very slight decline this week, while their challengers continued with strong gains. Anything can happen, but it would be surprising if we didn’t have a new #1 next week.
