PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
HINDER – “Halo”
When Hinder made their debut in 2005, it seemed like their brand of melodic hard rock was going to help set the tone for rock radio going forward. Sure, they had their share of detractors, but that comes with the territory when your sound is deemed to be “commercial.” The band had a good run for nearly a decade before the surprising departure of frontman Austin Winkler. After a brief stint with Nolan Neal at the helm, the band found their long-term replacement in Marshal Dutton (who had been working with the band in a writing/producing capacity while Winkler was still the singer). Hinder has released two albums with Dutton on vocals. While there were some good songs, to date, they haven’t recaptured the commercial radio success of their early years.
“Halo” is the lead single off of the band’s third album with Dutton. It looks like the old saying that “the third time’s the charm” may be prophetic in this case. With hints of the brighter side of early Stone Temple Pilots and an infectious melody in the vein of Cheap Trick, “Halo” is the catchiest song yet with the current lineup. It remains to be seen if radio will embrace these Oklahoma rockers as they once did, but this song definitely deserves airplay.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
Sometimes it seems as if there is a coordinated effort to rotate songs into the top position. Heading into this week, I would have bet that Five Finger Death Punch would be getting their shot at the top, even after being leapfrogged two weeks in a row by up-and-comers. Greta Van Fleet held onto the top spot despite a drop in spins. FFDP only had a marginal drop, but it was enough to keep them locked at #2 for another week. Unless they reverse course next week, it’s likely that they will have (surprisingly) peaked at #2. Disturbed and Three Days Grace are both within striking distance of the top. It wouldn’t be shocking to see either one emerge at the top next week.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

TRENDS & OBSERVATIONS
It will be interesting to watch the performance of the Shinedown single as it finally make a push up the chart several months after some outlets started giving it steady airplay. It seems unlikely that the early adopters would try to hold on to the song that’s already been played extensively, so to hit the band’s usual peak, they’ll need even more support than usual from the rest of the stations just coming on board.
