PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)

JOHN GARCIA AND THE BAND OF GOLD – “My Everything”

The fuzzy dissonance of stoner rock…the old school Sabbath vibe…the Zeppelin undertones.  All of this melded together creates a powerful, balls-to-the-wall musical experience that takes you back in time to an era where radio play took a back seat to raw edge during the writing process.  John Garcia (ex Kyuss) and the Band of Gold proudly wear the classic rock badge on their sleeve with the “My Everything” (from the band’s upcoming, self-titled debut album).  It wasn’t that long ago that songs like this would not have a place on Active Rock radio, but thanks to bands like Chevelle, Rival Sons, and Greta Van Fleet (to name a few), ’70s-inspired, blues-based, straight forward rock and roll has carved out its piece of the airplay pie.  This band, with a bit of a punk edge, may not be as easy for the masses to digest as the aforementioned bands, but those with an appreciation for the more raw sound of the ’70s will definitely appreciate what Garcia and company have to offer.

 

 

PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)

As guaranteed last week, Shinedown’s run on top ended this week.  The battle between Bad Wolves (f. Diamante) and Godsmack was tight, but the former held their inside track to score yet another #1 single before the year ended.  There’s only a few weeks left in 2018.  Unless something unlikely happens, these two will battle for the top spot to close out the year.

Five Finger Death Punch has another Top 10 single, as Avenged Sevenfold’s latest falls back and allows them to move up…

Last week’s only new Top 30 song is this week’s only new Top 20 song, the latest from Greta Van Fleet.  Second straight week they’ve moved in that fashion…

Metallica was the highlight of three songs that moved into the Top 40 last week, this week they’re the highlight of three songs moving into the Top 30…

The only new entry into the Top 40 is Badflower…

And the lone debut on the published chart this week has the 50^th spot, that’d be Panic At The Disco (words I should never have to type when discussing Active Rock).
