PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
THE LAZYS – “Little Miss Crazy”
The smooth swagger of Aerosmith in the ’70s meets the raw energy of Buckcherry circa 1995. That’s what came to mind as I listened to “Little Miss Crazy,” the latest single from Canadian rockers (by way of Australia), The Lazys. During the guitar solo, a taste of home shines through with an AC/DC-esque vibe. Don’t mistake the influences of other fun, bluesy rock and roll artists as an implication that the band is derivative or dated sounding. Quite the contrary! Their blending of true rock and roll influences into their own sound gives “Little Miss Crazy” a timeless quality. Most importantly, The Lazys bring something to the table that we can never have enough of these days – a pure rock and roll sound that isn’t chasing a trend. If you long for the days when rock and roll was all about unabashed fun, and a nice escape from the daily grind, then you will absolutely love this song (and band for that matter). It’s hard to say if the song will get the attention from radio that it deserves, but this is a band that must be on your radar regardless of whether they get airplay or not.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
Last week, it was predicted that the hottest young band in rock was virtual lock to top the charts with their latest single, “When The Curtain Falls” either this week or next. It’s not surprising that Greta Van Fleet took over the top spot this week. What is a little bit surprising is that they did so with Disturbed still rising. No easy feat! The top two are only separated by around 50 spins, so there’s always a chance that they flip flop next week, but the bragging rights are already locked in. Unless one (or both) of the two start to drop, it’s unlikely that either will be caught by Shinedown in the next two weeks. It’s possible that Shinedown could be caught by Bad Wolves (f. Diamante), but it’s more likely that both will get their chance at the top. Neither will be able to rest easy though. There are a number of songs with momentum right now, most notably the latest single from Godsmack.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.
