PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
EMPTY TRAIL – “My World”
The brainchild of singer/guitarist Rick Lambert, who began writing songs in Los Angeles in 2013, Empty Trail is now an Austin, TX based power trio. However, when you listen to “My World” for the first time, you don’t think of either Los Angeles or Austin. The city that comes to mind (in a good way) is Seattle.
One of the reasons that grunge and the “Seattle sound” burned so brightly and faded relatively quickly (in the scheme of things) is because of the lack of quality artists who could hold their own. Too many copycats, not enough innovators. Looking back, most of the bands of that era have been forgotten. They’re nothing more than a footnote in the history of hard rock. However, the best of them are still relevant to this day.
The artists that come to mind most when listening to Empty Trail are Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Nirvana. However, their sound has a current vibe that would make it a nice fit on Active Rock radio. Tortured at times, Lambert’s melodic vocals allow just enough light to shine through the darkness. Walking the fine line between depressing and uplifting is not one that many achieve. On “My World,” Lambert has done it.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
It looks like Disturbed will have another week (possibly two) at the top before giving way to Greta Van Fleet. The pair is only separated by around 200 spins, so it’s possible that there could be a new #1 as soon as next week. For that to happen, Disturbed will have to have a meaningful drop while Greta Van Fleet continues to gain spins. There is no other legitimate threat to challenge for the #1 position at the moment. The next likely challenger will be Shinedown, followed by Bad Wolves.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN (by Jon Loveless)
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT

Papa Roach rockets into the Top 20, Rival Sons latest single squeaks in as well…
Two songs are new to the Top 30, led by Five Finger Death Punch, while Red Sun Rising returns to the tier despite losing 11% of their airplay from the week before…
The Top 40 has five songs that weren’t there a week ago, including a pair of songs that re-enter as well as the week’s highest debuting song courtesy of Pop Evil…
Five other songs make their Top 50 debut this week, including singles from Chevelle and newcomers Stone Horses.

TRENDS & OBESERVATIONS
