PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
DISTURBED – “Are You Ready”
Aside from the band’s megahit cover of “The Sound Of Silence,” whenever Disturbed comes blasting through your speakers, you need to brace yourself for an onslaught led by frontman David Draiman. The band’s lead single (“Are You Ready”) from their forthcoming October release gets the adrenaline pumping from the outset. Draiman aggressively belting out “Get Up, Get Up” makes it feel like the beginning of a high intensity workout video. As the song transitions, the mood shifts from workout to a message of empowerment. An “us against the world” anthem if you will.
Disturbed is one of the truly unique bands in rock today, so it’s no surprise that they are a dominant force on Active Rock radio. With a three year gap since their extremely successful Immortalized album, there was undoubtedly a pent up demand for new music from the band (from both fans and programmers alike). “Are You Ready” shot up the chart this week, gaining more spins week-over-week than most songs received it total. It seems like it’s only a matter of time before the song tops the chart (most likely within the next month or so).
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
Last week’s predictions were spot-on! Not only was it guaranteed that Ghost would finally be knocked from the #1 position (likely in favor of Halestorm – the new #1), but it was predicted that the former chart-toppers would be leapfrogged by Halestorm, Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin, and Three Days Grace. Is it time to go out on top like George Constanza did on Seinfeld? Nah, we’ll keep ’em coming…
Halestorm’s run on top is likely to be short-lived, as they make way for Five Finger Death Punch. Whereas Ghost was the recipient of fortunate timing, the top 4 is now filled with format heavy hitters. How many of them will get their turn at the top? It would be easy to say that they’ll all get their chance, but given Disturbed’s incredible rise this week (gaining 724 spins, and vaulting into the top 10), there may not be enough time to rotate each of them in before David Draiman and company take over.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN (by Jon Loveless)
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
The format powerhouse that is Disturbed roars into the Top 10…
The new Top 20 songs this week, all with significant gains in position despite modest gains in airplay, were boosted by the sharp declines for a number of fading hits…
Four songs new to the Top 30, led by Shinedown (who nearly doubled their spins) and Fozzy (who gained eight positions)…
With all the movement above, surprisingly there’s not a single song that’s truly new to the Top 40 this week. Live does inch back up two spots to match where they were two weeks ago…
Three debuting singles and a re-entry appear in the Top 50, including a brand new release from Bring Me The Horizon.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Shinedown – “Get Up”
Five Finger Death Punch – “Sham Pain”
Disturbed – “Are You Ready?”
FALLING
Ghost – “Rats”
Alice In Chains – “The One You Know”
Godsmack – “Bulletproof”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
How fast is the Disturbed song moving up the chart? It gained more spins (+724) week over week than all but 13 rock songs received during the entire period.
