PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
FRAMING HANLEY – “Puzzle Pieces”
There are those who see a slew of puzzle pieces lying on the ground and look forward to the process of putting them together. Others (like me), look at the process of putting the pieces together to be a daunting task. Apparently, Framing Hanley falls into the latter category, at least metaphorically. After a breakup in 2015 that felt more like a regretful business decision based on a sign of the times than any strife between the members, the band is back with a new single called “Puzzle Pieces.”
In a rock world filled with “retirement” announcements followed by unsurprising reunions, the return of Framing Hanley feels different…more genuine, and a bit surprising (in a good way). If I’m being honest, I don’t personally see a big change in the rock music landscape between 2015 and today, which is why I was happy to hear new music from Framing Hanley. Perhaps the band just needed some time away to realize that the old adage “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone” is based in reality. Regardless of the inspiration, it’s good to hear new music from Framing Hanley just the same.
What struck me most when listening to “Puzzle Pieces” was the Nothing More vibe of the song. This is not to say that the song is biting off of the sound of one of the rising stars in rock. In fact, as the song progresses, the sound that fans have come to appreciate from Framing Hanley comes shining through. The overall feeling of the song is a bit more moodier and mature sounding than previous material, but it works very well, and should absolutely find a home on Active Rock radio.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
Things are shaping up nicely for Ghost in their quest for #1 (they had the only song in the top 5 with a meaningful spin gain). It was starting to look like it would take until July for “Rats” to reach the top, but with less than 300 spins separating them from Godsmack, it’s realistic that they could be the new #1 as soon as next week. If not, then they can still make it under the wire and reach the top before the calendar changes.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN (by Jon Loveless)
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Top 10 is unchanged in composition from last week, almost unchanged in order as well…
Halestorm quickly soars into the Top 20, the only new arrival there this week. Breaking Benjamin misses the 20th spot by one spin…
Two songs actually debut in the Top 30, the latest single from Three Days Grace along with as new music from Badflower. Nothing More and Tremonti both climb into the tier as well…
Thrice is the only other newcomer to the Top 40 this week…
Two more songs premiere in the published chart, including a persistent single from No Resolve.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Nothing More – “Just Say When”
Halestorm – “Uncomfortable”
Breaking Benjamin – “Torn In Two”
FALLING
Jonathan Davis – “What It Is”
Imagine Dragons – “Whatever It Takes”
Royal Blood – “Hole In Your Heart”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
Nice to see No Resolve break through onto the published chart. Another one of those songs that took a while to get there, (it debuted eight weeks after the first official adds were recorded). Often times, songs in that situation remain stuck just outside the Top 50 and fade after coming close, so it’s nice to see that not be the case for a second straight single for the band.
