PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
HALESTORM – “Uncomfortable”
Female fronted hard rock bands have grown in popularity in recent times, as has the #MeToo movement. While I’m a big supporter of the movement, I can’t say that a part of me doesn’t long for the debaucherous days of rock and roll. Enter Lzzy Hale. As (arguably) the top female vocalist in the genre today, Hale could easily use her platform to further empower women. For better or worse, we tend to associate the empowerment of women with taking a stand and shattering the glass ceilings that have existed for far too long. With “Uncomfortable” (Halestorm’s debut single off of the band’s upcoming July release), Hale takes the empowerment of women in a totally different direction.
Hale has never been one to shy away from her sexuality, but there is no reading between the lines with “Uncomfortable,” a song that openly talks about sex, and her reasoning for putting it out there. It’s a refreshing change of pace, and a reminder that female empowerment and sexuality are not mutually exclusive. While it’s easy to lump Hale in with other female rockers, the truth of the matter is that her style and swagger has always made me think of her as being in the same vein as Sebastian Bach. Like Bach, Hale has a softer side that can be found on songs like “Here’s To Us,” but at her core, she is an intense rocker and captivating lead vocalist. Will Halestorm’s latest single make some people “uncomfortable?” Highly likely, but that doesn’t seem to be of any consequence to Hale. In fact, she proudly states that it’s her intention. It’s no surprise that this killer tune made a strong debut on this week’s chart.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
As predicted last week, the top 2 songs are from Shinedown and Godsmack. While it looked like there was a chance that Godsmack would peak at #2, the powers that be helped to elevate “Bulletproof” to #1, knocking off “DEVIL.” Based on the current trends, Godsmack is a lock to still be #1 next week, even if they start to decline. If they gain or stay flat, their run at the top is likely to extend into July. The way things are shaping up, it looks like Ghost is going to reach the top in the coming weeks with their latest single, “Rats.”
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN (by Jon Loveless)
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
No changes in the composition of the Top 10 for the second straight week…
No changes in the composition of the Top 20 in fact…
Asking Alexandria and Skindred both crack the Top 30, as does the latest from Breaking Benjamin, in only its second week on the chart…
The week’s highest debuting song, from Halestorm, paces a trio of new entries in the Top 40. Like A Storm and Shim join them in that rank…
Three songs in the final ten positions of the chart weren’t there a week ago but only one is an actual debut, that being the second single from Dead Girls Academy. The others are re-entries that back their way in on flat or declining spins.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Ghost – “Rats”
Five Finger Death Punch – “Sham Pain”
Alice In Chains – “The One You Know”
FALLING
Bad Wolves – “Zombie”
Theory Of A Deadman – “Straight Jacket”
Royal Blood – “Hole In Your Heart”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
This is the fifth consecutive week with the same top three songs. Listeners in most markets have to feel like they’re being beaten over the head the with same stick repeatedly at this point.
