PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
STONE BROKEN – “Worth Fighting For”
“Stand up, show them what we’re made of…that’s what we’re fighting for, don’t want to lose it all. Stand up, and lead a generation…that’s what we’re fighting for, we’re gonna give it all. Stand up, the world is worth fighting for.”
If Stone Broken’s “Worth Fighting For” came out a few weeks from now, you would think that the song was a response to the March For Our Lives protest that took place this past weekend. Though it clearly wasn’t the inspiration, the lyrics in the chorus (see above) are fitting to say the least.
Like the March For Our Lives movement, Stone Broken’s roots trace back to a tragic loss. Frontman Rich Moss’ former bandmate suffered from alcohol addiction. After his passing, Moss put his rock and roll dreams on hold, but after four years, he formed Stone Broken with guitarist Chris Davis, bassist Kieron Conroy, and drummer Robyn Haycock.
“Worth Fighting For” is the lead single from this UK quartet’s debut album. Moss has always looked at the top artists in the genre as his peers, so it’s no surprise that Stone Broken breaks onto the scene with a polished sound that’s in the sweet spot of Active Rock. Beyond the inspiring, empowering lyrics, the song has a Gemini Syndrome vibe, and Nickelback-esque phrasing.
It would be surprising if radio doesn’t jump on this one soon.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
Last week, it was predicted that Pop Evil may follow the trend of a one-week stay at the top of the chart. That prediction came true, making it the fourth new #1 song in as many weeks. However, there was an unexpected surprise. It was predicted that Three Days Grace was poised to take over the top spot if Pop Evil started to slip. Though “The Mountain” had another strong week of gains, it was Breaking Benjamin’s “Red Cold River” that caught fire and leapfrogged from the #4 position all the way to the top.
If this week’s trend is any indication, things are about to get interesting in the coming weeks. Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace should continue to battle for the top next week. However, neither should get too comfortable because it won’t be long before a battle royale ensues with other Active Rock heavyweights closing in. Five Finger Death Punch, Godsmack, and Shinedown all had big gains this past week, as did what may be one of the hottest songs in recent memory, Bad Wolves’ cover of “Zombie.” Throw in another solid week for Nothing More, and things get even more interesting.

Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.
