PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
JOSH TODD & THE CONFLICT – “Story Of My Life”
Though Josh Todd & The Conflict has a different energy than Buckcherry, hearing Todd’s instantly recognizable vocals makes you think of the band that he made famous. However, as you listen more, you can start to hear some of the differences between the two bands. That being said, the difference was much more stark with the band’s first single, “Rain.” “Story Of My Life” is a high energy rocker with a bit of a California punk influence. What makes the song stand out (aside from Todd’s incredible vocals) is tasteful use of a tribal beat. This track chugs along at an upbeat pace, but also features some nice breaks that show off how dynamic this unit can be when they want to be.
Many people dread change, but in “Story Of My Life,” Todd seems to be celebrating change. I purposely decided to feature this song today because, for many years, March 13th has been a reminder of how quickly life can change. What was once a day of celebration is now a day of wondering “what if?” At this moment in time, I can appreciate how changes can “make you feel alive” (as Todd states in the song). Although this date is always a bit bittersweet for me, I have reached a point in life where I’ve made changes that have altered the future for the better. I’ve always found that music can uplift your spirit and wash away melancholy. “Story Of My Life” is one of those mood lifting songs.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
As virtually guaranteed last week, Papa Roach’s reign at the top ends this week. “Born For Greatness” continued to drop, while both Greta Van Fleet and Pop Evil rose. When all was said and done, Greta Van Fleet’s “Safari Song” ended up atop the chart. The song actually gained momentum and increased the lead over Pop Evil’s “Waking Lions.” Pop Evil remains within striking distance, and could easily rise to the top if Greta Van Fleet declines at any time (as early as next week). Neither of the current frontrunners should feel too comfortable though, as the heavy hitters are all closing in, and will undoubtedly be a threat within the month (at the latest). Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace look poised for the next battle, followed shortly thereafter by Five Finger Death Punch and Nothing More. At the very least, things should be interesting in the coming weeks.

Good news is the fair amount of turnover in the Top 50. Less than good news is the shockingly low threshold to be part of the Top 50.
