PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
RANDOM HERO – “The Impossible”
Random Hero believes in positive messaging. “The Impossible” goes beyond positive into the motivational realm, from the lyrics to the uplifting vibe. Though they consider themselves Christian Rock, they do not believe in preaching. If your beliefs are similar, you may glean something different from their lyrics than those with a different belief system. In fact, if you didn’t know about who they are, you could easily interpret “The Impossible” as being written about a specific purpose, rather than a higher being. For all I know, that is the case. And that’s the point. Random Hero can make you feel the song even if you have no idea what inspired it. Although my personal preference is for melodic singing over growling, I can appreciate a growl (or scream) used for accent. That is exactly how Random Hero uses it. Because the song has such a powerful melody, with nice harmonies, the little bit of angst that is added through timely growls is something that you look forward to. Depending on your age (and if you listen with headphones), you may hear some interesting nuances that remind you of music from another era and genre, which adds another layer of intrigue.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
Nothing More will finally rise to #1 next week, now that “Go To War” has closed the gap on Theory Of A Deadman’s “Rx” has started to decline. Foo Fighters have regained momentum with “The Sky Is A Neighborhood,” making them the next likely #1 after Nothing More has their run (which may not be very long).
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN (by Jon Loveless)
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Royal Blood moves into the Top 10 with over 20% increased airplay from last week…
Four songs crack the Top 20, led by a red hot single from Five Finger Death Punch, up nearly 50% in spins in only its second week on the chart…
Three songs make their Top 30 debuts this week, including the solid performer from I Prevail that had an impressive debut a week ago…
No less than five songs crack the Top 40 for the first time, led by a strong out-of-the-box showing for the next single from Papa Roach…
There are six titles in the bottom portion of the Top 50 that weren’t there a week ago (though one is a re-entry), the highest of which is a relatively quiet debut from Metallica.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Royal Blood – “I Only Lie When I Love You”
Five Finger Death Punch – “Trouble”
Pop Evil – “Waking Lions”
FALLING
Hellyeah – “Love Falls”
Highly Suspect – “Little One”
Mastodon – “Steambreather”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
It’s especially nice to see both Kobra & The Lotus and Within Reason crack the published charts (for at least a week). Airplay began for both songs in late July/early August, and each has been holding on outside the Top 50 week after week. Both songs have been airplay worthy the entire time, only to be stuck outside the chart with spins going to other songs (in some cases) for as long as six consecutive months.
WRAP-UP
