PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
REVOLVE – “Days Of Grey”
Revolve is back with their latest single, “Days Of Grey,” yet another song by the band that fits right into the Active Rock pocket. This band deserved much more attention last time around. If programmers care about keeping their playlists fresh, and their audiences engaged, this song should be added into rotation immediately. For those who still haven’t discovered this talented rock outfit from Baltimore, MD, you’re in for a treat with “Days Of Grey.” You’ll find a sense of familiarity because of the vast influences, but the song stands on its own just the same. From the Tool vibe in the opening riff, to the Shaman’s Harvest soul when the verse kicks in, to the sweet vocal harmonies that are in the same vein as format heavy hitters Shinedown and Sevendust, this song has a lot for Active Rock fans to love. The Sevendust connection makes sense since the song was produced by Morgan Rose. Just when you think that you’ve heard it all, the band kicks it up a notch towards the end of the song with a heavy, Alter Bridge-esque closing. If Revolve can legitimately be mentioned with some of the top talents that the genre has to offer, it should be a no-brainer to start spinning this song with regularity.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
Although Theory Of A Deadman continued to gain modest spins, Nothing More closed the gap this week, and has a decent chance to reach the top as soon as next week. Its seems almost certain that “Go To War” will eventually reach #1. It’s just a matter of when. Based on the current trend, it looks like Foo Fighters could stall before reaching the top. However, bands of that pedigree don’t often peak in the top 3 without spending at least a week or two at #1.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN (by Jon Loveless)
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Composition of the Top 10 remains the same as a week ago, despite half of them losing spins week-to-week…
Royal Blood has the only new entry in the Top 20, although Ded actually moves back up into the 20th spot, same place they were four weeks ago…
Avenged Sevenfold and A Perfect Circle both move into the Top 30, one week after each debuted in the Top 40…
The only “new” song in the Top 50 this week is actually a song from The Struts that is making it’s third entrance/re-entrance on the published chart.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Seether – “Betray And Degrade”
Royal Blood – “KILL4ME”
A Perfect Circle – “The Doomed”
FALLING
Queens Of The Stone Age – “The Way You Used To Do”
Nine Inch Nails – “Less Than”
Prophets Of Rage – “Living On The 110”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
Four of the current top 10 songs debuted back in May. It’s not as though there isn’t reason to have more movement than we’re seeing. It is also not due to a lack of options, given that there is shortage of airplay candidates available. My frustration – which has probably been pretty clear for weeks – is primarily on behalf of the latter. There’s a lot of deserving material that’s not going to get its due because of the stagnation. Nowhere is it etched in stone that life is fair of course, but it’s a raw deal for both artists and listeners. And all parties deserve better than what radio is delivering.
