PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
BOBAFLEX – “Long Time Coming”
Bobaflex introduced their eighth studio release with a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Hey You.” Because the cover stayed fairly true to the original, it might have been a challenging fit for Active Rock radio. That is definitely NOT the case with their follow-up single, “Long Time Coming,” which hits you hard from the opening riff and doesn’t let up (for the most part). Taking a page out of the prog rock playbook, there are brief, moody vocal harmonies that will remind you of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Bobaflex doesn’t get nearly the recognition that they deserve for their brilliant, distinct vocal harmonies. From the softer moments to the sledgehammer power to the haunting vocals, everything just works on this song. Of course, this is nothing new for Bobaflex. Now, if only radio would recognize this band’s genius the way that I do. Fingers crossed!
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
As predicted last week, Highly Suspect rises to the top of the chart, knocking Greta Van Fleet out after a nice run. With a pretty solid lead, “Little One” could be on top for at least a few weeks if they keep increasing their spin count (or even plateau). However, it’s not uncommon for an older song to hit #1 and then start dropping the next week. Any significant slip is likely to make their reign on top fairly short. With the rest of the top 6 gaining ground, we should know in the next week or two which of them will emerge as the next contender. Keep an eye on Papa Roach, Nothing More, Theory Of A Deadman, and Foo Fighters.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN (by Jon Loveless)
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Nine Inch Nails reaches the Top 10 this week..
Two new arrivals in the Top 20, including the latest single from Ded…
Somewhat ironically, the biggest climb on the chart this week belongs to Marilyn Manson (47 to 24). Stone Sour also breaks into the Top 30 very quickly…
Three songs crack the Top 40 this week, with All That Remains getting mileage from a cover tune, while Asking Alexandria enjoys a nice enough debut for their latest single (and the return of their long-time vocalist, Danny Worsnop)…
Nearly three months after the first signs of (secular) airplay, Christian rap-rocker Manafest breaks onto the published chart. The next Royal Blood single debuts also.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Foo Fighters – “The Sky Is A Neighborhood”
Thirty Seconds To Mars – “Walk On Water”
Marilyn Manson – “Kill4Me”
FALLING
Royal Republic – “Baby”
Foo Fighters – “Run”
Green Day – “Revolution Radio”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
With the recent chart success of cover songs, I can’t help but wonder if a few more recent ones might not have either been good choices as singles, or could be singled in the future. In This Moment has “In The Air Tonight” available, Volbeat had a perfectly respectable version of “Battleship Chains,” and if not for the tragedy that befell them, I wonder if their solid accounting of “Rebel Yell” would have gotten Adrenaline Mob some airplay. With “Come Together” actually getting airplay from two different artists in the past year – the Godsmack version has only been off the chart for 20 weeks – I suspect we haven’t seen the last of covers-as-singles.
