PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
IGNITE THE FIRE – “Criticize”
What do you get when you cross the soaring, melodic vocal style of Shinedown’s Brent Smith and the haunting vocal style of Gemini Syndrome’s Aaron Nordstrom? Ignite The Fire’s Jack Gurecki. Like Gurecki, the tight, intense musicality of the entire band conjures up thoughts of Gemini Syndrome. This is high praise considering the fact that the band is relatively new on the scene. “Criticize,” from the band’s debut, 5-song EP, would make an excellent addition to any Active Rock playlist. The song is everything that you expect from the heavy hitters in the format, driving rhythm, meaningful lyrics, impressive vocals, and a cohesive sound that goes well beyond their years. It’s no surprise that Ignite The Fire has already shared the stage with many of the top names in Active Rock. If they get radio traction, there’s no reason that this band can’t follow the same ascension that bands like Nothing More and Red Sun Rising have enjoyed in recent years.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
As predicted last week, Greta Van Fleet remains on top after a week with basically flat spins. Highly Suspect moves to within 225 spins from the top, but their latest single (“Little One”) doesn’t seem to have a lot of momentum behind it. Even though it feels like the song has been around forever at this point, it might still have enough left to eventually reach the top if Greta Van Fleet starts to drop. Nothing More’s “Go To War” continues to rise, but at a slower pace than it once did. The song with the most momentum is “Rx” by Theory Of A Deadman. At this pace, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see TOAD reach the top within the month.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
Several songs are at (or nearing) the five-month mark on the chart. This is one of several reasons that it’s getting harder and harder for bands to break through into the Top 50. Others are seeing the run of a single extended by having almost two separate sets of airplay, with satellite seemingly on one release cycle, while terrestrial radio is on another. The latter isn’t necessarily problematic for listeners who only make use of one delivery method or the other. However, the former seems quite stifling for a format that’s already becoming less distinctive by the day.
