PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
ISLANDER – “Summer”
If you’re a fan of interesting songs with a cool vibe, Islander’s “Summer” stands on its own. What makes the song particularly compelling is the metaphorical lyrics. Yes, the summer season is one that people look forward to all year long. It always seems to go by faster than other seasons, especially for those who live in cold weather climates. That’s the literal sense of the word. In the case of Islander’s “Summer,” the word represents a time when the world just seemed like a happier place. Without alienating anyone, Islander has managed to brilliantly capture the pulse of society with a song that, at face value, seems like an homage to a favorite season. As you pull back the layers, what’s revealed is intelligent insight into the human condition. “Summer” is already gaining traction on SiriusXM’s Octane, and if Active Rock programmers are smart, they will follow suit sooner rather than later. Even though the kids are all back at school at this point, there’s still technically a few weeks of the season left for this song to have a timely debut in the top 50.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
Last week, it was predicted that Greta Van Fleet could reach #1 as soon as this week. That prediction came true, as “Highway Tune” (a song that feels like a lost Led Zeppelin track) justifiably reaches the top of the chart, which is no easy feat for a newcomer. With a solid lead of almost 450 spins over Papa Roach’s “American Dreams” (the only other song in the top 5 trending up), it looks like Greta Van Fleet should enjoy a longer run than the one-week reign of Rise Against. The only other realistic challenger in the near future is likely to come from Nothing More, who currently sits at #7 with “Go To War.” Songs to watch in the coming weeks are the latest singles from Theory Of A Deadman (“Rx”), and Nine Inch Nails (“Less Than”).
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN (by Jon Loveless)
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Top 10 sees Hellyeah arrive on basically flat airplay, rising one spot as Foo Fighters’ recent #1 song starts to plummet…
Fozzy and Korn both return to the Top 20, where they were four to six weeks ago…
A new Foo Fighters single rises into the Top 30 (explaining the descent of their previous single)…
10 Years continues to show early strength with “Novacaine,” reaching the Top 40 just two weeks after it debuted. Dorothy moves back into this section as well, after a one week absence…
Two debuting songs certainly run the gamut of sounds as Thirty Seconds To Mars and Trivium each premiere in the Top 50.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Greta Van Fleet – “Highway Tune”
Theory Of A Deadman – “Rx”
Foo Fighters – “The Sky Is A Neighborhood”
FALLING
Foo Fighters – “Run”
Metallica – “Now That We’re Dead”
Pretty Reckless – “Back To The River”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
Relatively minor changes this week, not unexpected since most labels tend to avoid add dates that fall on a holiday week.
