WHITE POWER, AND STREAMING MUSIC STATIONS
A few years ago, I read an article that stated that white power rock music was still alive and well in major streaming corporations. Since 2014, Apple and Spotify had alluded to the fact that they were removing all remnants of the hate music from their streaming and purchasing catalogues.
It turns out, in 2017, that 37 bands are still present in the Spotify catalog, as recently identified by Digital Music News. Suddenly, the incentive for removing the bands and music was increased by ten fold due to the alleged horrific actions by Nazis, KKK and White Nationalists in Charlottesville, VA.
Apple claimed that they had dissolved any affiliation with the labels or bands back in 2014. Independent music labels are a different story. Many refused to remove the racially discriminating music groups from their organization, and viewed the antagonism of the press and protestors as “promotionally worthwhile” and a motivating factor in the sale of white power product.
One of those independent labels originates in Maryland and utilizes an app identified by their name, Label56. Google is now going to great lengths to remove the app from their online store, while other social media sites and streaming sites like SoundCloud and YouTube are just now beginning to capitulate to the concerns of the organizations such as Black Live Matters and the Anti-Defamation League.
Many experts believe that the music and the bands are a major factor in radicalizing new members for their white power cause. It is going to be a long and excruciating process to remove the offensive tunes due to the apathy of consumers and corporations that demonstrate no moral clarity, other than to satisfy their greed. Plus, there is the legal complexity, which will slow down the process through legitimate court challenges of evaluating the music regarding freedom of speech laws.
If you are interested in fighting this melody of hate, please get in touch with the Southern Poverty Law Center. If you want to read about the start of neo-Nazi Rock and the exploits of one of the most malicious and rancorous bands to walk this earth, I recommend this Washington Post article. The most offensive (and well known) metal and rock artists in this genre, are Brutal Attack and Satanic War Master.
BARK AT THE MOON
Ozzy Osbourne finished up the four-day Moonstock Music Festival on August 21st with a rock and roll dedication to the celestial event of a total solar eclipse by performing an exhilarating and electrifying rendition of “Bark at the Moon.” Other featured bands included: Five Finger Death Punch, Halestorm, and Black Stone Cherry. Check out the video here.
LOUDWIRE MUSIC AWARDS…
One of my favorite rock award shows is the Metal Hammer Golden God Awards in the U.K. A close second on my bucket list would be to travel to America for the upcoming Loudwire Music Awards on October 24th. Loudwire has announced the lineup of a wide selection of prodigious rock bands that are scheduled to perform at the show in Los Angeles. Some of the bands performing include: Anthrax, Body Count, and Halestorm.
This year, there will be a kick-off party on October 23rd at the Regent Theatre in L.A. It will be hosted by Jose Mangin and broadcast on Sirius XM. If you want to participate in part of the voting process, click here.
LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON
If you’re a fan of Metallica, you’ll want to watch a fifteen-minute rock documentary that features the 12-year-old son of bassist Robert Trujillo replacing the bassist from Korn on their most recent South American Tour. The film about Tye Trujillo was produced by videographer Sébastien Paquet. Check out the video here.
SIR LARS ULRICH, KNIGHT OF THE ROUND TABLE
In Denmark in the late ‘70, Lars Urlich ditched his tennis racket for a set of drums. In 1981, Metallica was born. This year, Denmark knighted Ulrich with the Knight`s Cross of the Order of Dannenberg. The Knight`s Cross “is a means of honoring and rewarding the faithful servants of the modern Danish state for meritorious civil or military service, for a particular contribution to the arts, sciences or business life or those working for Danish interests.”
