PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
THEORY OF A DEADMAN – “Rx”
Theory Of A Deadman has established themselves as a staple Active Rock band with a distinct sound and style. If you were looking for more of the usual fare from TOAD this time around, you’re likely to either be pleasantly surprised or disappointed. Personally speaking, I fall squarely in the pleasantly surprised category. In fact, “Rx” may already be my favorite song by the band, and it was just released. The vibe of this thought-provoking song is reminiscent of the one that Everlast captured nearly two decades ago with his hit song, “What It’s Like.” Tackling the issue of society’s overuse of prescription pills, “Rx” is a harsh dose of reality that would actually be depressing if the song wasn’t so catchy and good. It’s hard to say whether a less established artist would get traction at Active Rock radio with a song like this, but thankfully, radio has already embraced the song because of the band’s previous track record. It will be interesting to see what the rest of the album sounds like when it’s released in October. If this first single is an indication of what’s to come, this might be TOAD’s best album yet.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
Foo Fighters managed to hold on to the top position for another week, but their reign as kings will end next week. Unless there is an unexpected twist on the horizon, the new kings will by Royal Blood, with their latest single, “Lights Out.” Rise Against is still within striking distance, but unless they regain previous momentum, they are likely to only “rise” to #2 next week. For the moment, there doesn’t seem to be any other threat to reach the top, but things can change quickly from week to week.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
The top 16 songs remain the same for yet another week, only a couple of position shifts among the group…
Kid Rock and Fozzy both manage to crack the Top 20 despite the stagnation in front of them…
Three songs arrive in the Top 30, led by the latest single from Mastodon….
Three songs also join the Top 40 including the highest debuting song of the week, the different sound of new Theory Of A Deadman…
Only one other song debuts this week, the lead single from the forthcoming new album by Otherwise.

Kid Rock – “Greatest Show On Earth”
Nine Inch Nails – “Less Than”
FALLING

Metallica – “Now That We’re Dead”
Chevelle – “Rivers”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
A treat for me this week to see Otherwise debut this week with a song I first heard in a live performance a few weeks ago. It was clear at the time they had something that should fare pretty well with radio. I’ll be looking forward to a similar experience when Sons of Texas unleash their new single later this month. Their live set included several new songs and could easily make them one of rock’s most talked about new(er) bands when the album is released.
