PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
DED – “Remember The Enemy”
Ded burst onto the Active Rock scene with the juggernaut single, “Anti-Everything.” The band’s follow-up single, “Remember The Enemy,” proves that these newcomers are more than just one hit song. Still present is the piss and vinegar angst of the band’s hit single, blended nicely with a catchy hook and melodic vocals. The heavy bottom of the song gets your pulse racing, but rather than just hitting you over the head like a sledgehammer, the band shows impressive dynamics and unpredictability. When they do kick into overdrive, it makes you want to break something, or at the very least, “turn it up to 11” (Spinal Tap reference). With a sound this powerful (and right in the Active Rock pocket), it’s not hard to imagine this band becoming a staple of the format going forward.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (By Adam Waldman)
Last week, it was predicted that Foo Fighters would have an extended “Run” at the top with their latest single. While they still have a fairly solid lead, they did start to decline this week by a slight margin. The good news for Dave Grohl and company is that Metallica and Stone Sour both declined as well, so their lead increased by a narrow margin. Rise Against’s song, “The Violence,” looks like the next likely challenger, but they still trail by over 350 spins, so it could take a few weeks to “rise” to the top. Nothing More’s “Go To War” continues to gain momentum, and looks to be a good candidate to reach the top in the coming weeks.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.
