PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
NOTHING MORE – “Go To War”
After a stellar in 2013, which featured a number of radio hits, Nothing More has finally returned to the scene (much to the delight of Active Rock radio programmers). Like many other top artists in the format, Nothing More released more than one single at a time. Both songs have been appearing on SiriusXM’s Octane Big ‘Uns Countdown in recent weeks, but the song that has already been climbing the charts is “Go To War.” Like many of their previous singles, it’s a safe bet that this song will continue to climb towards the top, and has a good chance to be nother #1 hit. Frontman Jonny Hawkins, who has emerged as one of the best in the genre, picks up right where he left off the last time around. Few modern singers are as dynamic as Hawkins, who has a special way of giving his thought-provoking lyrics deep emotions with his delivery. From soft, vulnerable moments to impassioned, aggressive ones, Hawkins delivers the sound that so many have come to know and love, “Go To War” is a song that was well worth the wait for new material. One of the things that I always loved about Nothing More is that they are unique and diverse. There’s a reason why this band immediately launched themselves into the upper echelon of Active Rock artists. As much as they band has to offer musically, this is one band where you get so much more out of the listening experience if you pay close attention to the lyrics. Thinking man’s metal, for sure. Hopefully, this return to the scene will be met with a return to #1 sooner rather than later.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (by Adam Waldman)
As predicted last week, Foo Fighters had enough momentum to overtake Metallica for the #2 position this week, and continues to close ground on Stone Sour (which was flat this week). Given that this was a holiday week, there’s always a chance that Stone Sour could make another push, but the trend looks like their “run” will end next week when Foo Fighters rise to the top.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
With Foo Fighters overtaking Metallica for #2 this week, could it be that the band taking the country by storm with a summer stadium tour will end up with only two of their four singles reaching #1? “Hardwired” spent a single week atop the chart, “Moth To Flame” peaked at #4, “Atlas Rise” got two weeks atop the chart, and perhaps the best of the bunch “Now That We’re Dead” could end up peaking at #2. The band’s radio strategy during the current album cycle, releasing singles in rapid succession, often led to one song prematurely terminating the previous song’s rise, suggesting that their interest was in maintaining a consistent presence rather than peaking any one track. With a double album at their disposal, it will be interesting to see how deep into the cuts they’re willing to go and whether that strategy might change as the stadium tour winds down over the next month.
