PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
RED SUN RISING – “Uninvited”
Perhaps the most haunting song in Alanis Morissette’s catalog is 1998’s “Uninvited.” Nearly two decades later, Red Sun Rising has taken the song to another level with a dark, cinematic interpretation worthy of a horror film (and that’s before you even watch the uncensored video). Sometimes it’s the vocals that draw you in; sometimes it’s the music. Red Sun Rising’s cover of “Uninvited” is a brilliant combination of both contributing to the solemn mood of the song. The eerie guitar parts and tension-building drumming provide the perfect backdrop for Mike Protich to penetrate your soul with vocals that vacillate between gut-wrenching angst and melancholic beauty. Protich is proving to be one of the most dynamic vocalists in the Active Rock genre, and the band is undoubtedly “rising.” This song may be a bit dark for heavy rotation, but the format clearly has embraced these newcomers, so there’s always a chance that it can catch fire like their other popular singles.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (by Adam Waldman)
If we’ve learned anything in recent months, it’s that songs that seem to have peaked can still gain momentum again in just one week. Last week, it was predicted that Seether would have another two weeks on top (based on the trend). However, the spins started to decline pretty heavily this week, as did the spins for #2 (Starset). On the other hand, “Black Rose” (Volbeat f. Danko Jones) moved up to #3 on a solid increase. It’s possible that Seether could hold on to top spot for another week, but usually once a song has triple digit spin declines, the momentum picks up in the other direction. Conventional wisdom would say that Volbeat looks to be a good position to move up to #1 next week, but based on the current trend, there is a decent chance that they get leapfrogged by Stone Sour’s “Song #3” (which came on very strong this week).
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
It’s harder than usual to draw firm conclusions about declining airplay and the lifespan of some singles on this week’s chart. The Memorial Day holiday weekend in the U.S. often includes countdowns and specialty shows on a lot of radio stations, taking spins away from songs in regular rotation. Combined with last week’s Rock On The Range coverage that took Sirius Octane out of its normal playlist (cutting spins to half the previous week for many songs), it wouldn’t be too surprising to see a few songs that appeared to be on the way out experience a sudden resurgence.
