PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
STONE SOUR – “Song #3”
Continuing the recent trend of major acts simultaneously releasing more than one single, Stone Sour re-emerged after four years with a bang. On April 27th, the band released “Fabuless” and a modern-day love song called “Song #3.” The upcoming album (Hydrograd) features 15 songs, so it makes sense for the band to release more than one single. Stone Sour actually recorded 18 songs for the album, but only 15 made the final cut. Perhaps they ran out of ideas for song titles, thus “Song #3.” A more likely explanation is that this band is so good that they can release singles with basically no title and make an immediate impact. “Song #3” has already cracked the top 50 with a massive 515 spin gain this week. It won’t be long before a likely rise to the top of the chart. When discussing the album, Corey Taylor said that the new album “is probably one of the best records that we’ve done since the first Slipknot album.” If you are a fan of Taylor’s more melodic vocals, you are going to love “Song #3.”
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (by Adam Waldman)
The trend at the top continues to be a bit erratic. It’s become the norm for the #1 to reverse course once its spins begin to decline. Papa Roach bucked the trend by having a second consecutive week of modest losses. However, unless Seether’s “Let You Down” has peaked, it will be the new #1 song next week, as it looks to have created some separation from Starset’s “Monster.” There is some ground to make up, but don’t be surprised if Metallica makes yet another run at the top with their latest single, “Now That We’re Dead.” In the coming weeks, Metallica may be battling it out with Stone Sour’s “Song #3” for the top.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.
