PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
GEMINI SYNDROME – “Sorry Not Sorry”
The insight of “thinking man’s metal” (usually reserved for progressive acts) packaged into a powerfully melodic Active Rock song. In a format that offers so many similarities, Gemini Syndrome stands on their own with a signature sound and thought-provoking lyrics that show a keen awareness of the human condition. With their latest single, “Sorry Not Sorry,” Gemini Syndrome has once again delivered something special. On their previous single, “Remember We Die,” the band reminded us of the fragility of life and the importance of living in the moment. This time around, Aaron Nordstrom and company put the materialism of society, and the trend of favoring filtered social media over face-to-face interaction under the microscope. As much as I appreciate the fresh sound that the band brings to a format that tends to stagnate, it’s the philosophical guidance that they offer with poignant lyrics that really sets them apart.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (by Adam Waldman)
It looks like this could be the end of the road for Papa Roach at the top of the chart. Often times, there is clear momentum signaling the next likely artist to rise to the top, but things are tight (and strange) in the #2 and #3 positions. Seether and Starset have been leapfrogging each other the past few weeks. After another surge of momentum, Seether once again pulled ahead into the #2 position, ending the week with a 14-spin lead over Starset. It’s possible that Papa Roach holds on for one more week if the two challengers plateau, but the most likely scenario seems to be a drop to #3 next week. Who will be #1? Your guess is as good as mine!
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
Make it five weeks at #1 for Papa Roach atop the Medibase Active Rock airplay chart. Seether recaptures the #2 spot from Starset by a slim margin, keeping the pair on a collision course to eventually replace the current leader.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Metallica continues their run of success quickly climbing into the Top 10 with their latest single…
Royal Blood has a rapidly ascending single of their own, leading three new entries into the Top 20…
Rise Against scores the week’s highest debuting single, crashing the Top 30 along with a new entry from Stitched Up Heart…
Stone Sour also debuts well at #38. Most weeks, that would have been good for highest debut. This week, they’re one of three new arrivals in the Top 40…
Two more singles make their Top 50 debut this week in the lower part of the chart, including a persistent song from Chrysalis that has been bubbling just below the published chart for a couple of months now.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Seether – “Let You Down”
As Lions – “Aftermath”
Royal Blood – “Lights Out”
FALLING
Korn – “Take Me”
Pop Evil – “If Only For Now”
Alter Bridge – “My Champion”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
While the rapidly ascending singles tend to get most of the attention, it’s actually interesting to see another chart trend developing over the past few months. Chrysalis is the latest of several examples of a song that appeared increasingly likely to miss the Top 50 finally breaking through. While that’s great for the bands that benefit from it, there does appear to be a possible downside in the big picture. The chart already moves at a fairly slow pace, and with what seems like around 20 slavishly chart-following stations for every one trendsetting station, we could see the chart slow down even more overall if three-or-more- months to break through becomes commonplace.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/
