PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
THE PRETTY RECKLESS – “Oh My God”
It’s easy to see why radio jumped the gun on adding “Oh My God” – the latest single from The Pretty Reckless – to their playlists. Although it wasn’t officially going for adds until January 3rd, a handful of stations couldn’t wait until then. It doesn’t take much these days to crack the Top 50, so any song with a little backing and momentum can make the cut. Of course, this is usually reserved for established bands that have already proven their mettle in the format. The Pretty Reckless definitely fits that bill, and the beauty is that they don’t have to “taylor” their songs to sound like typical Active Rock. “Oh My God” opens with a dirty, distorted riff that is reminiscent of Rush’s “Passage To Bangkok,” before shifting to an upbeat, aggressive punk-infused rhythm, and Taylor Momsen’s distinct vocals. This song will undoubtedly ascend to the top of the chart sooner rather than later, and should battle for #1 in the first quarter of 2017.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (by Adam Waldman)
As predicted last week, it looks like Highly Suspect will ride out 2016 on top. Their spin count lead is still over 130, and there doesn’t seem to be any momentum from anyone in the rear view mirror. With the world in holiday mode, it’s hard to envision a scenario where there is a change at the top in the final chart next week. “My Name Is Human” was also #1 on the Top 30 Octane Big ‘Uns Countdown Songs of 2016.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

KING OF THE HILL
Highly Suspect extends their streak atop the Mediabase Active Rock Airplay chart to six weeks. Ghost and Volbeat remain second and third as the charts grind largely to a Yuletide halt.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
No changes in the Top 10 songs (top 8 even has the same order).
Starset joins the Top 20…
Pretty Reckless was the only Top 40 debut last week, the only Top 30 breakthrough this week…
Badflower peeks into the Top 40, the lone new arrival…
Halestorm gets holiday airplay for a novelty cover, leaving Crown The Empire with the only Top 50 debut this week that has potential for the coming new year.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING

Green Day – “Still Breathing”
The Pretty Reckless – “Oh My God”
FALLING
Five Finger Death Punch – “I Apologize”
Disturbed – “Open Your Eyes”

TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
2016 looks to be ending with a whimper, rather than a bang, which is (unfortunately) pretty appropriate.
