GOODBYE JUNE – “Oh No”
Every once in a while, a song cracks the Active Rock top 50 that sounds so unique that it makes you stand up and take notice. Such is the case with Goodbye June’s “Oh No.” It gives you hope that bands rooted in classic rock can find their place on Active Rock radio, because otherwise, there is no natural radio format for them. “Oh No” starts off with a boot-stomping shuffle before Landon Milbourn’s gritty, bluesy Steven Tyler-esque vocals kick in over punk-laden riffs. As the song progresses, you can hear shades of classic Zeppelin. “Oh No” is like a three minute and forty second shot of pure adrenaline. The name of this band came on the heels of a tragic life event that took place over a decade ago, and yet, Goodbye June plays with an almost defiant zest for life. We can only hope that they get the attention that they deserve, because the sky is the limit based on their talent.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (by Adam Waldman)
Things are finally starting to get interesting at the top. With Green Day’s follow-up single to “Bang Bang” cracking the top 50 this week, they are now in the same situation as Metallica where they are cannibalizing their own spins. With solid gains once again by Skillet (“Feel Invincible”) and Disturbed (“Open Your Eyes”), there’s a decent chance that one will knock Green Day out of the top 2. Pretty Reckless’s “Take Me Down” took a step backwards after reclaiming the top spot last week, but unless their spins drop significantly next week, they will likely hold on to the #1 for at least another week. Metallica’s “Moth Into Flame” continues to make nice strides, as does Highly Suspect’s “My Name Is Human.” These two (along with Avenged Sevenfold’s “The Stage”) will be the next wave of songs fighting for the top, probably before the end of the year. Unless there is a sudden surge by one of them, or a drop by Skillet and Disturbed, it looks like these two will be battling for the position that Pretty Reckless is likely to vacate in the next two weeks.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
An unchanged top 3 leaves Pretty Reckless still at the top spot on the latest Mediabase Active Rock Airplay Chart. Both the current #1 and the preceding song from Green Day saw declines in airplay, but nothing remotely close enough to bring Skillet’s 20-week old contender all that close to a shakeup.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
