YOUNG GUNS – “Bulletproof”
UK up-and-comers Young Guns will be releasing their fourth studio album this week, entitled Echoes. The lead track on the album, “Bulletproof” is a fairly straightforward rock song that is anchored by the heavy bottom of new drummer, Chris Kamrada. What really brings this upbeat song to life is Gustav Wood’s lead vocals and the supporting vocal harmonies. In some ways, this song offers the simplistic beauty of Green Day, albeit with vocals that stand out in a much more melodic way. There is a freshness to the sound of this band that offers something different to the standard fare that is usually heard on Active Rock radio. With “Bulletproof,” the evolution of Young Guns continues in a meaningful way. This is a band whose best days are definitely in front of them. Active Rock programmers would be smart to start spinning this song with greater frequency.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (by Adam Waldman)
As predicted last week, Metallica’s “Hardwired” leapfrogged Pretty Reckless this week to reach #2, while closing Green Day’s gap in their quest for #1. The only excitement left at the top is seeing how long it takes Metallica to ascend to the throne (which seems like destiny). Otherwise, the chasm between the top three and the rest of the chart is so large that there is no telling when any other song will even crack into that tier. At the moment, all three are still increasing their week-over-week spin totals, while the nearest competition seems to be losing steam. So which artists are likely to challenge for the top down the road? Here’s two to watch – Volbeat’s “Seal The Deal” and Highly Supect’s “My Name Is Human.”
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

KING OF THE HILL
Green Day remains atop the Mediabase Active Rock Airplay chart for a second straight week despite considerable competition. The mighty Metallica claims the second spot, while Pretty Reckless falls to #3, despite a nearly 5% increase in airplay.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Skillet and Disturbed both reach the Top 10 with their latest singles…
Sixx: A.M. climbs into the Top 20, while Kaleo backs into the same tier…
Four songs crack the Top 30 this week, the strongest mover being from Thousand Foot Krutch…
Three songs make their Top 40 debut, including a strong showing from Beartooth and a surprisingly strong chart debut for the latest single from Highly Suspect…
Four other new singles also make their Top 50 debut, among them, the latest effort from Trapt.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Green Day – “Bang Bang”
Metallica – “Hardwired”
Volbeat – “Seal The Deal”
FALLING
Red Hot Chili Peppers – “Dark Necessities”
Chevelle – “Joyride”
Blink-182 – “Bored To Death”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
Certainly a busier than usual week for chart movement, but the remarkable stuff is in the top three spots. Timing for Pretty Reckless was pretty unlucky; their song has performed well enough, and shown enough strength to have been a multi-week #1, but not against the powerhouse performers that quickly surpassed it.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/
