I PREVAIL – “Stuck In Your Head”
Last week, I Prevail premiered “Stuck In Your Head” (the latest single from their upcoming album) on SiriusXM’s Octane. This song is a perfect fit for Active Rock radio. What makes it intriguing is the infusion of elements that you wouldn’t necessarily expect from this type of band. There’s enough heavy and angry moments to the song to appeal to fans of the format and the band, but it also has an upbeat and positive vibe at the same time (think Skillet meets Green Day with a hint of power pop a la The Romantics). What’s most important is that this is the kind of song that lives up to its title – “Stuck In Your Head.” Good luck trying to stop singing this catchy melody in your head after you’ve heard it. This single should enjoy a nice run up the charts once it gets some traction.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN by Adam Waldman
KING OF THE HILL
Chevelle’s “Joyride” spins once again remain flat, but their lead at the top of the latest Mediabase Active Rock Airplay chart increases due to weakness in the #2 and #3 positions. Because of the wide gap between the leader and their likely challengers, we may still be a few weeks away from a change at the top (unless their spins drop in a meaningful way). Think of Chevelle as defenseless prey just waiting to be eaten by surrounding predators (Pretty Reckless, Pop Evil and Prophets Of Rage).
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Prophets Of Rage cracks the Top 10 on another strong week of growth…
Disturbed is the only new entry into the Top 20 this week…
Green Day debuts at #22 with their latest single, “Bang Bang”…
Five Finger Death Punch debuts in the #32 position with “I Apologize”…
Red Sun Rising debuts at #42 with “Amnesia”…
Gemini Syndrome enters the chart at #47 this week.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
RISING
Pretty Reckless – “Take Me Down”
Prophets Of Rage – “Prophets Of Rage”
Green Day – “Bang Bang”
FALLING
Shinedown – “Asking For It”
Volbeat – “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown”
Kaleo – “No Good”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. Chevelle earned their rightful place at the top of the chart with consistent growth, but their stay is only strengthening on flat spins because of the large gap between them and the next two closest songs that are starting to fall hard. Pop Evil is following the same slow growth path, which is likely to prevent them from getting to #1 with “Take It All.” Pretty Reckless is likely to leapfrog them next week into the #2 slot. Prophets Of Rage has a chance to make a big move next week also. The next round of challengers is likely to come from heavy hitters like Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed and Green Day.
