ALTER BRIDGE – “SHOW ME A LEADER”
The three-year wait for new Alter Bridge music is finally over! Yesterday, the band released “Show Me A Leader,” the lead single off of their upcoming album, The Last Hero, and it couldn’t have come at a better time, at least in terms of subject matter. Although the song was obviously written before the political conventions, it’s obvious that the current political climate helped to inspire this balls-to-the-wall single. According to Myles Kennedy, the song “reflects the frustrations that a lot of people are feeling with the current state of the world. The world is looking for trustworthy, effective leadership and not this undignified dog and pony show that’s really made a mockery of our system.” Kennedy’s vocals are mind-blowing as usual, complemented by the blazing guitar work of Mark Tremonti, and a hard-driving, blood-pumping rhythm section. This full version of this song should be all over Active Rock radio, including the epic intro!
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (by Adam Waldman)
Red Hot Chili Peppers will end their run at the top next week, and be replaced by either Chevelle or Shinedown. Whichever band emerges on top will be replaced by Pretty Reckless in the not-too-distant future. Supergroup Prophets Of Rage and Disturbed will crack the Top 10 within the month.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.
SPIN IT…
ALTER BRIDGE – “Show Me A Leader”
RICHARDS / CRANE – “Black And White”
SHAMAN’S HARVEST – “Here It Comes”
SONS OF TEXAS – “Blameshift”
BRIDGE TO GRACE – “Left Inside”
HUDSON – “Cast Out”
EVE TO ADAM – “Lucky”
FIFTYWATT FREIGHT TRAIN – “Whiskey & Hate”
DROP IT…
Kaleo – “Way Down We Go”
Twenty One Pilots – “Heathens”
Cage The Elephant – “Trouble”
Kongos – “Take It From Me”
Catfish And The Bottlemen – “Soundcheck”
Holy White Hounds – “Switchblade”
Blink 182 – “Bored To Death”
Ghost – “From The Pinnacle To The Pit”
THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
The hunter has become the hunted, as Red Hot Chili Peppers retains their spot atop the Mediabase Active Rock Airplay chart for a third week (albeit by a steadily shrinking margin). Chevelle leapfrogs Shinedown for the #2 spot, but don’t entirely rule out the possibility of a resurgence, since the gap between #2 and #3 is still smaller than the mere 55 spins between #1 and #2.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Three Doors Down scores another Top 10 hit…
Pretty Reckless triples their airplay, rocketing into the Top 20…
Prophets of Rage lead three songs with their debut in Top 30…
Sixx A.M. and Failure Anthem both crack the Top 40 …
Late week addition Korn leads a trio of new songs debuting in more typical positions.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
MOVING UP
Blink 182 – “Bored To Death”
Pretty Reckless – “Take Me Down”
Disturbed – “Open Your Eyes”
DROPPING DOWN
Volbeat – “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown”
Ghost – “From The Pinnacle To The Pit”
Sick Puppies – “Stick To Your Guns”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
Pretty Reckless and Disturbed make nice leaps in their first full week of airplay for their new singles, as does Sixx A.M. (to a lesser extent). I fully expect Korn to see the same surge next week as the summer of big names rolls right on.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/

I’m so excited about new material from Alter Bridge! They were one of the first bands I ever fell in love with & I still have an immense respect for them.
