INFERNO OF ROCK NEWS
IN MEMORIAM
The perspective of this month’s report will no doubt have a different tone, due the horrible tragedy that occurred in Orlando, Florida. Everyone around the world is profusely saddened and angered by the acts of the terrorist, and touched by the empathy of those who gave any support, whether emotional, medical or financial. I will not discuss the possible causes, but rather the metal and hard rock community’s reactions to the incident via Twitter. I send my condolences out to the families of the victims, and I just want them to know they are not alone.
All statements below were made on June 12, 2016:
Slash (@slash): “There aren’t words enough to express the sadness I feel for the victims & their families of this tragic & horrific Orlando incident.”
Kiss (@KISSOnline): “Our hearts & prayers go out to all those in Orlando terrorized, injured or murdered in this unspeakable act.”
Papa Roach (@paparoach) :
“Praying for the Orlando shooting victims and their loved ones.”
GOLDEN GOD AWARDS UK
As far as I can observe, the Golden God Awards are going to be with Metal Hammer in the U.K. because Revolver has stopped advertising any promotional connection with their U.S partnership. The awards took place on June 14th, with a diverse amount of new hard rock and metal artists ready to compete for their attention in the social media circus. The London-based show also included a tribute to Lemmy and Motörhead. I’m including an extensive list of winners here (which is definitely better than the usual crap offered up at the Grammys and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame):
Best New Band: Creeper
Best Underground: Enslaved
Best UK Band: Asking Alexandria
Best International Band: Ghost
Breakthrough Artist: Beartooth
Best Live Band: Lamb Of God
Dimebag Darrell Shredder Award: Lizzy Hale
Best Album: Iron Maiden – The Book Of Souls
The Inspiration Award: Anthrax
Icon: Nikki Sixx
MORE LEGAL ISSUES FOR METALLICA
Metallica’s No Life ‘Til Leather demo tape reissue has been delayed due to legal issues…again. The demo tape was to be released in CD, cassette and vinyl formats (in an expanded version), but legal problems ensued and they just figured it was easier to move on to the next reissue, which is Kill `Em All. A WHOLE LOTTA AXL
AC/DC and Axl Rose wrapped up a 12-stop European tour in Denmark. Check out this video of Axl Rose demonstrating that he has the ability and the talent to take over the band. I was in deep shock watching him jump and gyrate and duplicate Brian Johnson’s voice.
TRENDS/OPINIONS
The Collectible Market for Rock
At least once a month, there is a Toronto/ Mississauga Musical CD/Vinyl Show that has demonstrated an enormous patronage. There are many similar ones throughout North America. Numerous high-quality rock collectables can be found on eBay. When I sold my vinyl collection to a large dealer (for close to $1000), they stated that the vinyl had to be “pure rock.” They had no interest in country or pop vinyl, but they did purchase my vinyl classical music collection. My own rock board game, Rock Trivia, from the ‘80s sells for a higher price now on the collectible market than it did when it was on sale thirty years ago (it has tripled in price!). Rock collectibles seem to have followed the same trend as rock music. One of the oldest and largest online music collectable catalogues for sale is The Record Cellar in Canada (which was created in 1998). Their most significant demand sales are for rock albums.
Pop music, on the other hand, does not fare as well as a collectible because of low brand loyalty after a few years. If you want to visit and see memorabilia, you can go to the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame or the Hard Rock Café. Rockabilia is an excellent website for purchasing rock items.
Be careful to shop around and compare prices when looking for rock memorabilia. If you are selling, keep in mind that there is an extensive market for classic rock.
