PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (by Adam Waldman)
NONPOINT – “Generation Idiot”
“Generation Of Idiots” is frenetically melodic, controlled yet chaotic, angst-filled statement about the human condition in America today. At least, that’s my interpretation of a song that seems to also be somewhat politically charged, which wouldn’t be surprising given the train wreck the current election cycle has become. Regardless of the exact meaning behind the song, Nonpoint’s latest single will undoubtedly connect with their fans, and should enjoy a nice rise up the Active Rock chart. This is one of a handful of bands on the scene today that has a true signature sound, due in large part to the unique vocal style of Elias Soriano. Nu metal, rap rock…it doesn’t matter what label you place on the band. “Generation Of Idiots” delivers what you want to hear on Active Rock radio.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
The margin is shrinking, but Volbeat remains at the top of the latest Mediabase Active Rock Airplay Chart for a fifth straight week. The Red Hot Chili Peppers closed the gap by nearly 20%, but that wasn’t nearly enough to dethrone the reigning leaders, who still lead by 450 spins. Shinedown climbs to #4, and should easily leapfrog Sixx A.M. by next week.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Not a single difference in the songs that make up the Top 20 this week. Within the Top 20, Chevelle has the most notable position change, climbing quickly to #6 …
Six songs enter the Top 30. Five are newly arrived, joined by Sevendust’s return to the tier. However, several of the songs showed little growth, rising due to songs previously ahead of them falling back …
New to the Top 40 this week are Thrice and Stitched Up Heart…
Five tracks make their Top 50 debut, led by the lead single from the forthcoming Skillet album.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
MOVING UP
Red Hot Chili Peppers – “Dark Necessities”
Shinedown – “Asking For It”
Chevelle – “Joyride”
DROPPING DOWN
Five Finger Death Punch – “My Nemesis”
Bring Me The Horizon – “Happy Song”
Foals – “Mountain At My Gates”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
As I said last week, it’s just a matter of math and time before the Red Hot Chili Peppers unseat Volbeat at the top of the airplay chart. Early trends suggest that the change could come as soon as next week. More than likely, it will take two weeks for it to happen, which would have their lead single at #1 when their new album hits the streets. In a perfect world, that’s how every band would draw it up.
