PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (by Adam Waldman)
FIFTYWATT FREIGHT TRAIN – “Whiskey & Hate”
Fiftywatt Freight Train is a hard rock quartet out of Charlotte, NC that has been recognized as one of the city’s best bands, and has been expanding their following throughout the Carolinas. Listening to their latest single – “Whiskey & Hate” – it’s hard to believe that they still play a mix of covers and originals in their region because they clearly have a knack for writing high-energy, melodic hard rock that rolls over you like a freight train, with a seasoned sound that makes them appear to be an established act. With big hooks that are in the same wheelhouse as Pop Evil, this band has huge Active Rock radio potential. Programmers would be wise to do their listeners a favor and hop aboard this freight train now!
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
Disturbed remains atop the Mediabase Active Rock airplay chart for a fifth straight week. While their week-to-week airplay was essentially flat, gains for contenders like 3 Doors Down and Muse were not nearly enough to close the large gap between themselves and the leader.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Somewhat predictably, there are no new arrivals in the Top 10 this week, given that four of the tracks debuted in this tier last week…
Top 20 newcomers are a disparate pair – Hellyeah and Foals…
Asking Alexandria’s “Here I Am” continues to climb, leading a trio of songs into the Top 30 this week (along with Killswitch Engage and Monster Truck)…
Kaleo also continues to rise, cracking the Top 40 one week after making their chart debut…
The only “new” entry in the Top 50 this week is actually a re-entry as Sunflower Dead returns to the published chart after a one week absence.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
MOVING UP
Sixx: A.M. – “Rise”
Ghost – “From The Pinnacle To The Pit”
Hellyeah – “Human”
DROPPING DOWN
Foo Fighters – “Saint Cecilia”
Saint Asonia – “Let Me Live My Life”
Failure Anthem – “Paralyzed”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
Disturbed has begun to show signs of weakening as the new week begins. Their status at the top of the chart will be determined not only by this weakening, but also by the hopefuls picking up enough of the lost spins to overtake them. There’s seems to be a chance that, instead of those spins going toward songs that are already near the top, they will instead be dispersed farther down the chart.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/
