PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (by Adam Waldman)
MONSTER TRUCK – “Don’t Tell Me How To Live”
Canada’s Monster Truck is a rock and roll band comprised of four “selfish” guys who rose from the ashes of the Canadian indie rock scene. Personally speaking, I think that we can use more of these kind of self-centered creative forces. Now, the term “selfish” is from their bio, but in this case, it is truly a positive. Once upon a time, rock and roll bands wrote music because it moved them, not necessarily just for radio play. Making a living as a rock musician nowadays is certainly not for the faint of heart, so it’s understandable why bands do whatever they can to get a leg up, including writing songs that “fit” a format. Monster Truck, on the other hand, has proven that you don’t need to limit creativity to fit into some arbitrary preconception of what “active rock” should be. The band talks about mixing their favorite hard rock, punk rock and classic rock to formulate their sound. The end result is something memorable and unique in “Don’t Tell Me How To Live,” which has a nice southern rock flavor added in for good measure. Anyone who needs further proof that this band marches to the beat of their own drummer should check out the lyrics to a song that, by all rights, should continue to climb to the upper reaches of the chart.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
Score a third week at #1 for Disturbed on the Mediabase Active Rock airplay chart. Not the least bit surprising, given the enormous airplay advantage the that “The Sound Of Silence” had over the latest efforts from Three Doors Down and Muse.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
From Ashes To New ascends into the Top 10, still climbing in its 25th week on the published chart …
Halestorm’s “Mayhem” is the only song to break into the Top 20 this week…
Lacey Sturm returns to the Top 30 with “Impossible” on slightly increased airplay after a month of declines…
This week’s highest debut comes from Cheap Trick, who enters the Top 40 with their latest single, “When I Wake Up”…
Two others songs make their debut in the Top 50, including a new one from A Day To Remember, which is notable in that it has already charted two weeks before the official “going-for-adds” date.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
MOVING UP
Muse – “Reapers”
Bring Me The Horizon – “Happy Song”
Sixx: A.M. – “Rise”
DROPPING DOWN
Nothing More – “Here’s To The Heartache”
Pop Evil – “Ways To Get High”
Foo Fighters – “Saint Cecilia”
TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
Expect several songs to break into at least the Top 10 over the next week or two, as four of the current Top 10 are in significant decline and on their way out. At least one or two others in that tier (at the moment) are on the extreme end of the longevity cycle.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/
