PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (by Adam Waldman)
LEO MORACCHIOLI – “Hello”
When Adele released “Hello” she came as close as you can come to “breaking the Internet.” In just two short months, the song has received almost 900 million views. While the original version can be appreciated by people of various musical tastes, there is something undeniably appealing about Leo Moracchioli’s metal cover of this insanely popular song. Unlike I Prevail, whose cover version of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” helped expose Active Rock audiences to their original music, Moracchioli makes no bones about what he is…”a musician from Norway most known for doing crazy covers on YouTube.” His cover of “Hello” is approaching 5 million page views, and has started getting radio attention as of late. Most hard rock and metal bands today scratch and claw for exposure with their original material, but will never approach having a YouTube video with millions of page views. Moracchioli has carved out a niche for himself that is highly entertaining without ever taking himself too seriously.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

UGLY KID JOE – “She’s Already Gone”
SEPTEMBER MOURNING – “Eye Of The Storm”
ADAKAIN – “Hey Girl”
VEER UNION – “Defying Gravity”

DROP IT…

Nate Rateliff & The Nightsweats – “S.O.B.”
Nothing But Thieves – “Trip Switch”
Cage The Elephant – “Mess Around”
The Struts – “Kiss This”

THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
2016 begins the same way 2015 ended, with Disturbed atop the Mediabase Active Rock airplay chart for a fifth straight week. Five Finger Death Punch is still #2, for a fourth straight week, and Shinedown stays at #3 for a third straight week.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Another week of the exact same Top Ten songs, third week in a row…
The only movement in the Top 20 is the arrival of Parkway Drive’s “Vice Grip,” up one position on less than 2% spin growth …
Both The Struts and Escape The Fate reach the Top 30, as each moves up on scarce growth (thanks to songs simply falling below them)…
Two songs climb into the Top 40, led by Bring Me The Horizon’s “new” single, “Happy Song”…
Three new arrivals to the Top 50, all of which have good potential for nice chart runs. Red Sun Rising (2015’s hottest newcomer) debuts with their second single, “Emotionless.” Slipknot quietly charts a fifth single in fifteen months as “Goodbye” enters the Top 50, and Adelita’s Way returns to the published chart for the first time since May with “Bad Reputation,” a new single that’s getting a huge push from SiriusXM’s Octane (providing virtually half its total monitored spins for the week).
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
MOVING UP
Foo Fighters – “Saint Cecilia”
Red Sun Rising – “Emotionless”
Adelita’s Way – “Bad Reputation”
DROPPING DOWN
Like A Storm – “Become The Enemy”
Nate Rateliff/Nightsweats – “S.O.B.”
Turbowolf – “Rabbit’s Foot”
FUTURES REPORT
While the recent stagnation of the chart is due, in large part, to the annual holiday slowdown, there’s also another factor in play. The current Top 3 each rushed into heavy rotation very quickly, meaning that the songs are relatively young compared to many of the other contenders. While radio could decide to make moves based on burn out, we could very well see the current logjam continue for several more weeks.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/

Quality!! We have tried our hand at a cover of Adele’s song ‘Hello’…again, pretty different from the original (and a very raw recording). If you’re interested give it a listen to and see what you think. https://juniorchills.wordpress.com/2016/02/16/adele-hello-cover/
