PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (by Adam Waldman)
ANTHRAX – “Evil Twin”
Anthrax fans will have to wait until the end of February for the band’s first album release in five years. However, the band recently released the first single from For All Kings. “Evil Twin” features the classic thrash sound that Anthrax is famous for, infused with a modern metal sound that makes it an interesting fit for Active Rock radio (think Slipknot’s “Custer” without the growling). Will this track stand out on most Active Rock playlists? Absolutely! It will certainly add a massive shot of testosterone to a typical rotation, and it will take some balls to give it the spins that it deserves. However, any song that takes terrorists to task in a meaningful way should be supported in this day and age. To not do so would be simply un-American!
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

DROP IT…

Cage The Elephant – “Mess Around”
The Struts – “Kiss This”
THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
Bring Me The Horizon retains the top spot on this week’s Mediabase Active Rock airplay chart despite losing a fair amount of their spins from the previous week. That decline, combined with a decent increase in play for #2 Disturbed, means that the current king is destined to be dethroned. At #4, Five Finger Death Punch only has to leapfrog a rapidly-falling Breaking Benjamin to creep into the conversation for a chart-topper as well. This ensuing battle is the sequel to one that happened earlier in the year between these two heavyweights.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
One new entry in the Top 10 this week as Shinedown’s “State Of My Head” moves in, as the sun sets on Red Sun Rising’s debut single…
New to the Top 20 this week are the latest singles from Cage The Elephant and Pop Evil…
Saint Asonia provides the only new arrival in the Top 30 with their follow-up single, “Let Me Live My Life”…
A nice gain in spins for Stitched Up Heart moves them into the Top 40, along with Muse…
Only a couple of Top 50 debuts this week, one being a relatively low impact appearance by Foo Fighters (who typically debut higher).
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
MOVING UP
Five Finger Death Punch – “Wash It All Away”
Seether – “Save Today”
N. Rateliff/Nightsweats – “S.O.B.”
DROPPING DOWN
Bring Me The Horizon – “Throne”
Breaking Benjamin – “Angels Fall”
Chris Cornell – “Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart”
FUTURES REPORT
More change than usual for a holiday period, which might foreshadow an extra change at the top between now and the end of the year. It remains to be seen, but that might bode well for a potential challenge for the top from an established artist like Seether. They are still down the chart a bit, but appear to have more momentum left than some of the songs between them and the top.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/
