PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK by Adam Waldman
BRIDGE TO GRACE – “Everything”
Since the release of “Everything,” the song has been featured in the “Spin It” section of the HRD Radio Report and also on Hard Rock Daddy’s Music Discovery Monday. After finally cracking the Top 50 of the Mediabase Active Rock chart, the song has been climbing for the past few weeks. This week, Bridge To Grace’s “Everything” cracks the Top 40, the second single to do so from the band this year (along with “Bitch”). These up-and-comers draw comparisons to Shinedown, a band that Bridge To Grace Producer Rick Beato has worked with in the past.
Tracks like “Everything” by new artists like Bridge To Grace are exactly what Active Rock needs to keep things fresh. The band has blended influences from the top bands in the genre to create their own sound. Huge hooks, soulful vocals, powerful vocal harmonies, big crunchy riffs, shredding guitars, a pounding rhythm and nice dynamics…the title of the song says it all….it has “Everything” that you want to hear in an Active Rock track.
The climb for “Everything” has been slow and steady so far. It’s hard to imagine a song this good not gaining traction and reaching the upper echelon of the chart at some point, much like fellow developing artists Highly Suspect and Red Sun Rising did with their respective singles.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.
SPIN IT…
NOTHING MORE – “Here’s To The Heartache”
RUBIKON – “Live That Lie”
FROM ASHES TO NEW – “Through It All”
SKINDRED – “Under Attack”
ATREYU – “Do You Know Who You Are?”
DROP IT…
Ghost – “Cirice”
Awolnation – “I Am”
In This Moment – “Big Bad Wolf”
Mumford & Sons – “The Wolf”
The Struts – “Could Have Been Me”
The Arcs – “Outta My Mind”
THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
Pop Evil remains atop the Mediabase Active Rock airplay chart for a second straight week by a relatively comfortable margin. “Footsteps” saw a minor increase in airplay while Shinedown saw a minor decline, and #3 Five Finger Death Punch took an even larger hit leaving no song in position to challenge for the top spot next week.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Another notable milestone for newcomers Red Sun Rising as “The Otherside” climbs into the Top 5…
Only one newcomer in the Top 10, as Chris Cornell swaps positions with Foo Fighters…
Asking Alexandria returns to the Top 20 with “I Won’t Give In,” the only song that wasn’t in that tier last week…
Only one new entry into the Top 30, the latest single from Three Days Grace, “Fallen Angel”…
Bridge To Grace provides the only song to break into the Top 40 with “Everything”…
A trio of songs debut in the Top 50, the most interesting story perhaps being in the 50th spot. That’s where Five Finger Death Punch debuts “Wash It All Away,” a song that has received no obvious heavy push as a single for radio, but gained enough airplay to break onto the chart for at least a week. This probably played a role in the decline of their top three single, “Jekyll & Hyde.”
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
MOVING UP
Bring Me The Horizon – “Throne”
Three Days Grace – “Fallen Angel”
Seether – “Save Today”
DROPPING DOWN
Five Finger Death Punch – “Jekyll & Hyde”
Disturbed – “The Vengeful One”
Highly Suspect – “Lydia”
FUTURES REPORT
If airplay gains/losses remain within the usual range, it could be at least another week or more before there’s a change at the top. There are several songs that appear likely candidates to contend for the top slot, but most have barely reached half the typical number of spins that it usually takes to reach #1. Unless one of the songs sees a sudden explosive growth, it could very well be close to Halloween before anyone dethrones Pop Evil.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/

I’ve said it since the first time I heard them. The are going straight to the top and fast.
