PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK by Adam Waldman
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE – “You Want A Battle? (Here’s A War)”
Based on this week’s chart action, the latest single from Bullet For My Valentine may have already plateaued, which is an absurd injustice to one of the best anthems to come out in recent years. There is no reason that this song shouldn’t be “battling” for a shot at the top alongside the other Active Rock heavy hitters. For the under-appreciated, the disenfranchised and anyone else who is feels slighted in any way, “You Want A Battle? (Here’s A War)” connects in a meaningful way with the perfect blend of melody, gang vocals and appropriately placed guttural growls. Quite simply, this track features everything that you want to hear on Active Rock radio. It makes no sense that songs that are distinctively NOT Active Rock continue their ascension into the Top 20, while Bullet For My Valentine seems to have reached its peak far too soon. Active Rock radio fans should be bombarding their local stations with requests for this song.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.
SPIN IT…
HEARTIST – “Ignite”
WILSON – “Right To Rise”
SEPTEMBER MOURNING – “Children Of Fate”
THE PROTEST – “Vicious Cycle”
THE WYLDZ – “Let It Go”
DROP IT…
Mumford & Sons – “The Wolf”
The Struts – “Could Have Been Me”
Beck – “Dreams”
The Arcs – “Outta My Mind”
Breaking Benjamin – “Failure”
THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
Strong radio support for Shinedown keeps “Cut The Cord” at the top of the Mediabase Active Rock airplay chart this week, as they actually extend their lead over #2 Disturbed. In fact, “Cut The Cord” extended their advantage over everyone on the chart this week, enjoying the largest increase in spins of any rock song in the U.S. Pop Evil takes “Footsteps” comfortably into the #3 position.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
The Top 10 welcomes both the debut single by Saint Asonia (“Better Place”) and the latest single from Papa Roach (“Gravity” f. Maria Brink) into the ranks.
Likewise, two songs climb into the Top 20 this week, a nice benchmark achieved by Aranda and All That Remains.
“Throne” explodes onto the chart with a Top 40 debut for Bring Me The Horizon.
The title, “Thank You,” is appropriate for Sevendust this week as their new single makes its debut in the Top 50.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
MOVING UP
Shinedown – “Cut The Cord”
Breaking Benjamin – “Angel’s Fall”
Bring Me The Horizon – “Throne”
DROPPING DOWN
Halestorm – “Amen”
Royal Blood – “Little Monster”
Breaking Benjamin – “Failure”
FUTURES REPORT
It looks as though the top spot may remain in the hands of Shinedown for an extended run, which could deny at least one of the current two contenders a shot at the top. The latest single from Breaking Benjamin (“Angels Fall”) could be one to watch by the time the weather begins to cool down.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/
