PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK by Adam Waldman
BUMBLEFOOT – “Little Brother Is Watching”
Active Rock radio has fully embraced Slash and DJ Ashba, but has not given the same love to Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (an equally talented Guns N’ Roses guitarist). They would be wise to do so, as Bumblefoot’s “Little Brother Is Watching” is one of the more inspired songs to come out in recent memory. The song may not sound like most of what is on Active Rock radio, but that is part of its appeal. Slash’s solo work with Myles Kennedy and Ashba’s work with Sixx:A.M. both stand out as unique when played on Active Rock radio, so why not add Bumblefoot into the mix with an incredibly catchy song that would undoubtedly infuse a breath of fresh air into any playlist? “Little Brother Is Watching” is the type of song that gets better with each listen, especially if you pay attention to the thought-provoking, timely lyrics about today’s society at large. Bumblefoot showcases his customary guitar work on this track, and also pulls double-duty by handling the vocals with a style that can best be described with one simple word – “cool.”
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
Like a summertime weather forecast…more of the same! Breaking Benjamin remains at #1 on the Mediabase Active Rock Airplay chart for a fifth straight week with “Failure.” Some erosion for the recent #1 by Zac Brown Band f. Chris Cornell finally allows Theory Of A Deadman to climb to #2 with “Angel.” Three Days Grace inches up to #4 as Royal Blood falls two spots (despite a decent amount of airplay growth).
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
No change in the composition of the Top 10, only some shuffling of the order. When seven of the songs are still showing growth that happens pretty easily…
Godsmack and 10 Years both break into the Top 20, the former arriving with a lot of momentum with “What’s Next.”…
A stellar debut for Pop Evil’s “Footsteps” (the first single from the band’s upcoming album), which makes its debut in the Top 30 this week. Saint Asonia also makes a serious jump into the Top 30 with their debut single, “Better Place.”…
Papa Roach returns to the chart after a brief absence, narrowly missing out last week but with a strong debut this week…
After slipping for a couple of weeks, it’s nice to see the latest from Tremonti return to the Top 40…
Top 50 debuts for The Struts and Art Of Dying, who finally breaks through with “Rise Up” at least seven weeks after the song started getting airplay.
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
MOVING UP
Theory Of A Deadman – “Angel”
Halestorm – “Amen”
Pop Evil – “Footsteps”
DROPPING DOWN
Slash – “Bent To Fly”
Temperance Movement – “Take It Back”
We Are Harlot – “Dancing On Nails”
FUTURES REPORT
Most of the Top 10 are still rising, so the outlook for the next (or the same) song to top the chart is murkier than usual. There should certainly be new arrivals in the Top 10 next week, but the eventual order for the top songs is still very much up in the air.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/

I’m with you on the I Prevail song. They definitely deserve more radio play.
