PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK by Adam Waldman
REVOLVE – The Road To Here (EP)
This space is normally reserved for a song selection, but I decided to “break the rules” a bit this week to shine the spotlight on Revolve, a hard rocking Baltimore quintet whose long-awaited, aptly-titled debut EP (The Road To Here) comes out today. Like most up-and-coming artists, “the road to here” for Revolve has not been without its challenges (name change, lineup changes, holding down day jobs, etc.). Although the EP was produced by Clint Lowery (Sevendust), Revolve is still very much a DIY band that faces an uphill battle in getting the recognition that they deserve. The band’s debut single (“Stranded”) – which is a perfect fit for Active Rock radio – was the first song featured on the HRD Radio Report in 2015. Programmers who may have missed it when it was first released have the chance to take “a second bite of the apple” and put “Stranded” into their rotations.
DIY bands like Revolve would infuse a breath of fresh air into a format that tends to hitch its wagon to a handful of established artists, some of which do not belong on Active Rock radio at all. While the HRD Radio Report no longer features the “I Call B#LL$HIT!” section (because it was starting to get a bit redundant pointing out the same songs each week), it wouldn’t be too difficult to find a number of artists that should be removed to make room for bands like Revolve.
Hard Rock Daddy will continue to “fight the good fight” to get bands like Revolve their just due. Give “Stranded” a listen if you haven’t already, and stay tuned for a review of The Road To Here in the coming days.

KING OF THE HILL
A close battle for the top spot of the Mediabase Active Rock Airplay chart this week ended with Offspring holding on for a second week at #1. Pretty Reckless stays at #2 – now less than 2% from the top of the chart, while their own advantage over fast-moving Zac Brown Band at #3 is even smaller than that. It looks like Breaking Benjamin and Theory Of A Deadman could be in line for eventual #1s, but that could be several weeks away unless there are major shifts in airplay trends.
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
Same Top 10 songs this week, only shuffled in order …
Same Top 20 songs this week, only shuffled in order …
Strong movement for Nothing More and their latest single “Jenny” as they rapidly rise into the Top 30…
Three songs climb into the Top 40 this week, including the first single from the forthcoming Aranda album (“Don’t Wake Me”)…
Three songs also arrive in the Top 50 (one a re-entry), highlighted by Crobot’s new single (“Legend Of The Spaceborne”)
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
MOVING UP
Zac Brown f. Chris Cornell – “Heavy Is The Head”
Theory Of A Deadman – “Angel”
Nothing More – “Jenny”
DROPPING DOWN
Foo Fighters – “Congregation”
Halestorm – “Apocalyptic”
All That Remains – “This Probably Won’t End Well”
FUTURES REPORT
A new #1 song appears almost inevitable next week, but sometimes things take an unexpected turn, so nothing is etched in stone. What “should” happen and what “does” happen makes things interesting for observers and probably stressful for participants.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/
