MUSICAL GUEST – Frank Hannon (Tesla)
Frank Hannon discussed his power trio (The Frank Hannon Band). They are currently touring the east coast, and to support his album, World Peace. Hannon has a big summer tour coming up with Tesla and Def Leppard (the bands toured together in 1987 doing the first tour in the round). Tesla will also be appearing on the Monsters of Rock Cruise this summer.
OPENING – Tribute to A.J. Pero (Twisted Sister, Adrenaline Mob)
The time that is usually allotted to the TMS Top 5 was used to pay tribute to drummer, A.J. Pero, who passed away suddenly on 3/20/15. The set was visited by Pero’s Twisted Sister bandmates Jay Jay French, Mark “The Animal” Mendoza and Eddie Ojeda. Each shared stories about Pero…
Jay Jay French – Told a story about AJ being from Staten Island and his mangling of the English language, and shared a joke that AJ used to tell in his Staten Island accent.
Mark “The Animal” Mendoza – Talked about how funny and crazy AJ was, and that he was the funniest personality in a band full of characters.
Eddie Ojeda – Told story about Cooch (a friend from Long Island who is part of the Fingers Metal Shop crew) and AJ wrestling on the bus. AJ told Cooch to throw him on top of Eddie. They rolled on top of him and then Dee joined in. This is the kind of stuff went on all of the time.
Eddie Trunk – Talked about how he and AJ were huge fans of the New York Mets, and how he’d get so excited when he showed up with Mike Piazza. He also talked about Dee Snider saying that “the nice guy in Twisted Sister is no longer with us.”
GUESTS – Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge) and Taylor Momsen (The Pretty Reckless)
MARK TREMONTI
Talked about his new Tremonti album coming out, which features Wolfgang Van Halen on bass. The band just released the first single (“Another Heart”) off of their album, which drops on June 9th. Tremonti talked about Wolfgang being disappointed that he won’t be able to tour with the band because of the upcoming Van Halen tour. He came to join the band after being turned on to Alter Bridge by Morgan Rose (Sevendust). Wolfgang invited Tremonti to come to a Van Halen practice at Eddie Van Halen’s studio. He admitted to being a little nervous playing in front of Eddie Van Halen for the first time.
With Tremonti, Mark sings and plays guitar at the same time. He said that the toughest thing for him is having is having to work the crowd, and not just entertain the people on his side of the stage.
Talked about sharing Myles Kennedy with Slash, and the incredible following that each band has on their own. He said that Myles is living the dream. He has no kids, so he brings his wife out on the road with him.
Dispelled rumor that’s been floating around about a band featuring him, Jamey Jasta and Joey Jordison.
TAYLOR MOMSEN
Taylor talked about inviting herself onto TMS. She has been touring constantly since last year with The Pretty Reckless. She discussed coming into the music industry at a difficult time, but that this has always been her passion. Other people made decisions for her since she started in the entertainment business at the age of two. When she was finally able to choose for herself, she quit acting to pursue music full time.
Her dad, who was a roadie for Aerosmith, got her into hard rock and metal. She grew up on his vinyl collection.
The Pretty Reckless is wrapping up their tour and heading back into the studio. They will be going out with Halestorm before going off of the road.
