PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK by Adam Waldman
Tremonti – “Another Heart”
With Alter Bridge’s three-year album cycle, fans will have to wait until 2016 for a new music from the band, but that doesn’t mean that the individual members are taking a break. Quite the contrary!
Active Rock radio programmers have embraced the work that frontman, Myles Kennedy is doing with Slash, and they would be wise to do the same for Tremonti, the side project of guitarist, Mark Tremonti. The band’s first single, “Another Heart,” off of their upcoming album, Cauterize, not only features the inspired guitar playing that we’ve come to expect from Tremonti, but also impressive lead vocals and a powerful band which includes Wolfgang Van Halen on bass.
“Another Heart” features a nice blend of speed and melody, and would offer a welcome infusion of a different kind of sound to Active Rock radio. Given that Alter Bridge is largely under-appreciated by Active Rock radio, it’s hard to say what kind of traction “Another Heart” will generate, but hopefully some smart programmers will add the song into rotation.
THE BREAKDOWN by Jon Loveless
KING OF THE HILL
No surprise to see Foo Fighters’ “Congregation” hold on to the top spot on this week’s Mediabase Active Rock Airplay chart. Mildly surprising is the fact that Halestorm, Pretty Reckless and Offspring remained in the same order for the next three positions on the chart. The song to watch as a future chart topper might just be the one at #7 from Zac Brown Band, “Heavy Is The Head.”
NOTABLE CHART MOVEMENT
A stellar debut for the return of Breaking Benjamin. The massive overhaul of the band’s lineup certainly seemed to have no effect on radio’s reception of them, as they debut as the only new entrant in the entire Top 30 …
A new single from Three Days Grace just missed cracking that layer of the chart and seems likely to be in the mid-20s or higher a week from now …
A total of five songs enter (or re-enter) the Top 50 overall this week, including the first single from Brooklyn-based (by way of Cape Cod) newcomers Highly Suspect …
THREE UP & THREE DOWN
MOVING UP
Zac Brown Band f. Chris Cornell – “Heavy Is The Head”
Breaking Benjamin – “Failure”
Three Days Grace – “Human Race”
DROPPING DOWN
Papa Roach – “Face Everything And Rise”
AC/DC – “Rock Or Bust”
Marilyn Manson – “Deep Six”
FUTURES REPORT
The most likely outcome next week seems to be a fairly stable chart in the upper reaches … we’ll see if radio manages to surprise us with a plot twist.
WRAP-UP
That’s all for this week. Tune in to HardRockDaddy.com every Tuesday for the HRD Radio Report. \m/
